The Taurus 605 .357 Magnum revolver is a compact, no-nonsense wheelgun built for everyday carry and personal defense. Chambered in .357 Magnum (and rated for .38 Special +P), this 5-shot stainless steel revolver delivers serious stopping power in a package you can actually carry all day without fatigue. At just over 25 ounces with a 2-inch barrel, it's light enough for pocket or waistband carry yet substantial enough to shoot confidently at the range or in a defensive scenario. The all-stainless construction resists corrosion, and the matte-black cylinder provides visual contrast that some shooters prefer. This particular model ships with factory-installed VZ grips—serious, ergonomic grips that replace the stock rubber and give you a fighting chance at speed and accuracy under stress.

Built on a small frame, the 605 measures just 7.5 inches in overall length, making it one of the more manageable .357 revolvers for shooters who value concealability without sacrificing usability. The double-action/single-action trigger works like any traditional revolver: smooth, predictable, and mechanically reliable. A transfer bar safety prevents accidental discharge if the gun is dropped, and the extended ejector rod makes reloading faster than typical pocket revolvers. Night sights with an orange outline come standard—a meaningful upgrade that lets you get a sight picture in low light without fumbling for a flashlight or relying on ambient light.

Revolver shooters tend to fall into two camps: those who love them for their inherent simplicity and those who need a caliber that actually hits harder than 9mm. The 605 splits the difference. It's simple enough that anyone can keep it running, tough enough to handle thousands of rounds through a .357 magnum barrel, and compact enough that you'll actually carry it. If you're tired of bulky semi-autos or plastic fantastic designs, and you want something that works the same way it did thirty years ago, this is your wheelgun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Taurus 605 good for concealed carry or home defense?

Yes. At 25 oz with a 2-inch barrel and 7.5-inch overall length, it's small enough for pocket carry or strong-side holster carry without printing significantly. The .357 Magnum chambering gives you genuine defensive energy, and the stainless construction handles daily carry without worry. Night sights help in low-light home defense scenarios. It's a straightforward defensive revolver that many experienced shooters prefer over plastic semi-automatics.

Can I shoot .38 Special ammunition in this gun?

Yes. The 605 is rated for both .357 Magnum and .38 Special +P. You can load either caliber safely—many shooters carry .38 Special +P for lower recoil and faster follow-up shots, then practice or hunt with .357 Magnum loads.

What grips come on the 605?

This model ships with VZ grips in black/gray. VZ grips are known for aggressive texturing and ergonomic design, which helps you maintain control during rapid fire or shooting under stress—a meaningful upgrade over basic factory grips.
