The Taurus 66 .357 Magnum revolver is a full-sized, double-action/single-action wheelgun built for hunters, sport shooters, and those who want serious stopping power in a proven platform. This medium-frame revolver chambers the potent .357 Magnum cartridge—capable of handling everything from .38 Special target loads to full-power Magnum hunting rounds—and holds 7 rounds in its cylinder. The matte stainless steel finish resists corrosion while keeping a professional, business-like appearance that works equally well at the range, in the field, or as a defensive sidearm.

At 43.2 oz and 12¼ inches overall length with a 6-inch barrel, the Taurus 66 strikes a balance between controllability and capability. The fixed front sight and smooth trigger are straightforward and reliable—no complex adjustments or gimmicks. Rubber grips provide a secure, comfortable hold in extended shooting sessions, and the Taurus Security System transfer bar ensures safe carry and handling. The 1:16.5 rifling twist with 6 grooves delivers consistent accuracy typical of medium-frame .357 revolvers.

This is a gun for shooters who value durability and simplicity. The DA/SA action means you can fire it double-action for faster follow-up shots or thumb back the hammer for single-action precision work. Whether you're zeroing in at 25 yards or hunting, this revolver handles both roles without fuss. The matte stainless finish is low-maintenance and won't show every fingerprint like a polished surface—practical for a working gun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot .38 Special in the Taurus 66?

Yes. The Taurus 66 is a .357 Magnum revolver, which means it safely accepts and fires .38 Special ammunition. Many shooters use .38 Special for practice or reduced recoil, then switch to .357 Magnum when hunting or carrying. Both cartridges work reliably in this cylinder.

What's the difference between double-action and single-action on this revolver?

In double-action mode, pulling the trigger both cocks and fires the hammer in one motion—ideal for rapid follow-up shots. In single-action, you manually thumb the hammer back first, then press the trigger. Single-action typically offers a cleaner, lighter trigger pull for precision shooting. The Taurus 66's smooth trigger works well in both modes.

Is the matte stainless finish easy to maintain?

Matte stainless steel is low-maintenance and durable. It resists rust and corrosion better than blued steel and doesn't show fingerprints as readily as polished finishes. Regular cleaning and occasional light oiling will keep it in good condition for years of use.

What makes the Taurus Security System transfer bar important?

The transfer bar is a safety mechanism that prevents the revolver from firing if it's dropped or struck. It only allows the hammer to strike the firing pin when the trigger is deliberately pulled, making the gun safer to carry and handle.
