The North American Arms Ranger II break action .22 WMR revolver is a compact, single-action wheelgun built for shooters who value portability without sacrificing practical firepower. With a 5-shot cylinder, stainless steel construction, and a 2.5-inch ribbed barrel, this is the kind of pocket-sized revolver that works equally well for backpacking defense, small-game hunting, or plinking at camp. The .22 Magnum cartridge delivers enough velocity and energy for varmints and pest control while remaining controllable and economical to shoot.

What sets the Ranger II apart is its break-open design: the cylinder hinges down for fast, intuitive loading and unloading—no fumbling with individual rounds in the field. The star ejector clears empties in one motion, making reloads slick and straightforward. The full ribbed barrel adds structural integrity and sight plane stability, while the front bead sight keeps things simple and fast-tracking for close-range work.

At 7.7 ounces and just 6 inches overall length, this revolver sits deep in a pocket or pack without complaint. The rosewood boot grips are sized for a secure one- or two-hand hold on a compact frame, and the single-action trigger breaks clean once you take up the slack. The bead-blasted stainless finish resists corrosion and handles the bumps of trail use without showing wear.

This is a purpose-built little revolver for hunters, campers, and outdoorsmen who need reliable stopping power in a package that doesn't slow you down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this revolver small enough to carry as a backup or in a pocket?

Yes. At 6 inches long and 7.7 ounces, the Ranger II is designed for pocket carry and pack carry. It's light and compact enough not to burden a hiking load or add noticeable weight to daily carry on the trail.

What is the break-open cylinder and how does it work?

The break-open (or break-action) cylinder hinges downward from the frame for loading and unloading—similar to a side-by-side shotgun. This design is faster and more intuitive in the field than traditional swing-cylinders, and the star ejector pushes all five spent cases out at once when you crack it open.

Can I use this for hunting or is it just a plinking gun?

The .22 Magnum cartridge is perfectly suited for small-game hunting (rabbits, squirrels) and varmint control. The Ranger II's simplicity, reliability, and manageable recoil make it a genuine field revolver, not just a range toy.

Is the single-action trigger safe for carry?

Single-action means the hammer must be cocked before each shot. Many shooters prefer this for carry because it requires a deliberate, two-stage action to fire—hammer back, then trigger pull—reducing the risk of an unintended discharge.
