The Henry Side Gate Lever Action Rifle in .30-30 is a modern take on the classic American hunting rifle, built for hunters and marksmen who value tradition without sacrificing practicality. This H009GCC model adds a side-loading gate to the Henry lever-action lineup, making it easier to top off your rounds or unload quickly in the field—a feature serious hunters and ranch shooters have long wanted. Chambered in the proven .30-30 caliber, it's a reliable, effective choice for deer and elk hunting out to 125 yards, and it carries the kind of timeless appeal that works as well in a saddle scabbard as it does at the range.

Built around a color case-hardened steel receiver and topped with a 20-inch octagon blued barrel, this rifle delivers the classic lines Henry is known for while handling like a modern firearm. The American walnut stock feels substantial in your hands, and the adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with diamond insert pairs with a brass bead front sight for a sight picture that's both traditional and functional. If you prefer a scope, the rifle is drilled and tapped for Weaver mounts, giving you flexibility to set up a precision rig. At 8.54 pounds and 39 inches overall, it balances pointability with enough weight to manage recoil and steady your aim.

The side gate is a game-changer for lever-action fans. Instead of feeding rounds down the top of the tube, you load them through the side gate, which speeds up reloads and makes it simpler to manage your ammunition without wrestling with the magazine tube. Add the transfer bar safety, swivel studs for sling attachment, and a ventilated rubber recoil pad, and you have a rifle that's ready to hunt or shoot right out of the box.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the effective range for hunting deer and elk?

The .30-30 caliber is effective for deer and elk hunting out to approximately 125 yards. Beyond that distance, bullet energy drops off significantly. This rifle is designed for close- to mid-range hunting scenarios typical of brush country, timber, and shorter-range open terrain.

Can I mount a scope on the Henry Side Gate .30-30?

Yes. The rifle is drilled and tapped for Weaver scope mounts (Weaver 63B), so you can easily install a scope base and rings. Many shooters pair it with a 2-7x or 2-8x scope for hunting applications.

How does the side-loading gate work compared to standard lever-action rifles?

Instead of loading rounds down through the top of the magazine tube (as on traditional lever-actions), the side gate allows you to open a port on the side of the receiver and load rounds directly into the magazine. This makes topping off faster and easier, and simplifies unloading when needed.

What's included with the rifle?

The rifle ships with the walnut stock, sling swivel studs, adjustable rear and front sights, transfer bar safety, and recoil pad. It does not include a scope, scope rings, or ammunition.
