Henry H009G Side Gate Lever Action 30-30 Rifle with Walnut Stock
Henry Repeating Arms
The Henry .30-30 Side Gate Lever Action Rifle combines classic American hunting heritage with thoughtful modern refinements. Built around the timeless .30-30 cartridge and backed by Henry's reputation for quality lever guns, the H009BG delivers the handling and balance that made this action legendary in deer camps and timber country. The side-loading gate—a feature that sets this rifle apart from traditional top-eject designs—speeds up reloading and fits naturally into how modern hunters work. Whether you're hunting in thick cover, setting up for longer shots, or adding a premium .30-30 to a serious collection, this rifle bridges tradition and practicality.
The octagon blued-steel barrel measures 20 inches, keeping the overall profile compact at 39 inches for ease in vehicle and stand work. At 8.3 pounds, the rifle balances well for all-day carries in the field. The polished hardened brass receiver and American walnut furniture strike a balance between durability and aesthetic appeal—this is a rifle that looks as good in a safe as it performs on game. The fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight with diamond insert and brass bead front sight are practical and quick to use; the drilled and tapped receiver accepts a Weaver 63B scope base for those who prefer glass without sacrifice.
Safety is handled by a transfer bar mechanism, a design that's been proven across thousands of Henry rifles. The five-round capacity suits the cartridge and rifle's intended role, while the 14-inch length of pull accommodates most shooters. With a 1:12 rate of twist, the barrel stabilizes factory .30-30 ammunition across the velocity ranges commonly used for whitetail, mule deer, and hog hunting.

The side-loading gate lets you feed cartridges directly into the magazine through a port on the right side of the receiver, without removing the forearm or tilting the rifle. This speeds up reloading in the field and offers a modern convenience that traditional top-loading lever guns don't have.
Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped to accept a Weaver 63B scope base, so you can mount optics for extended-range hunting or target work. The factory sights are also fully functional if you prefer iron-sight accuracy.
The .30-30 Winchester is a proven whitetail and mule deer round, especially in brush and timber where the rifle's compact 20-inch barrel and 39-inch overall length are an asset. Shot placement matters, as with any cartridge, and the rifle's traditional sights and optics-ready receiver support both approaches.
The 14-inch length of pull accommodates most adult shooters and hunters. If you have a shorter or longer reach, a gunsmith can modify the stock or you can explore Henry's other lever-gun models to find a fit that works for you.
