The Charter Arms Pitbull Extra Large .45 ACP revolver is a solid-frame, six-shot wheelgun built for shooters who want a reliable, American-made defensive revolver in a proven caliber. With its 2.5-inch barrel and 22-ounce weight, the Pitbull strikes a practical balance between shootability and portability—compact enough for concealed carry or home defense, yet substantial enough to manage .45 ACP recoil without punishing your hand. The black nitride finish protects the stainless steel frame and cylinder against corrosion while giving the gun a purposeful, understated look.

Charter Arms engineered the Pitbull around their rimless cartridge extractor system, which uses a dual coil spring assembly to reliably chamber and retain .45 ACP rounds—a cartridge not naturally suited to revolver use. After firing, spent cases eject cleanly for quick reload cycles. That engineering matters if you're running this gun at the range or in a self-defense scenario where reload speed counts.

The neoprene grips provide a secure, non-slip purchase in dry or wet conditions, and the single-action/double-action trigger allows you to carry safely with the hammer down or work the gun cocked for precision work. Whether you're a revolver purist, a backup gun shooter, or someone who prefers wheel-gun simplicity over semi-auto complexity, the Pitbull Extra Large deserves a close look—especially if .45 ACP ammunition and affordability factor into your decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use standard .45 ACP ammunition in this revolver?

Yes. The Charter Arms Pitbull Extra Large is specifically engineered to chamber and fire .45 ACP rimless cartridges using their proprietary rimless extractor system. The dual coil spring assembly in the extractor allows the cartridges to seat and retain properly in the cylinder.

Is the Pitbull suitable for concealed carry?

At 22 ounces with a 2.5-inch barrel, the Pitbull Extra Large is compact and light enough for concealed carry. The short barrel also makes it easier to draw and manipulate in confined spaces, though carry method and holster choice will ultimately determine concealability and comfort.

How do you reload after firing?

After firing, spent .45 ACP cases eject cleanly from the cylinder for immediate reloading. The rimless extractor system is designed to simplify ejection cycles compared to traditional revolver rimmed-cartridge handling.

Is this revolver made in the United States?

Yes, the Charter Arms Pitbull is American-made.
