The Charter Arms Pitbull .40 S&W revolver brings rimless-cartridge simplicity to wheelgun shooting without the usual hassle of moon clips or special loading gear. Built on a large frame with a 2.3-inch barrel, this five-shot revolver uses a patented dual coil spring extractor system that grips .40 caliber cartridges securely in each chamber—no moon clips needed. That means faster reloads and cleaner ejection cycles when you're at the range or counting on your gun in the field. At just 20 ounces, it's compact and carry-friendly without sacrificing handling.

The black nitride finish is where Charter Arms engineers set this gun apart. Nitride hardening reduces friction and wear while resisting scratches far better than traditional blueing or parkerizing. It's a working finish built to handle the wear that comes with serious use, whether you're running defensive drills, trail shooting, or hunting. The full rubber grip absorbs recoil and keeps things steady in your hand, and the standard hammer gives you both single- and double-action options.

If you've wanted a .40 S&W revolver but balked at the complexity of loading rimless rounds, the Pitbull solves that problem elegantly. It shoots common, affordable .40 ammunition with the reliability wheelguns are known for—no special gear, no workarounds, no excuses. This is Charter's answer to shooters who want centerfire performance in a no-nonsense, easy-to-load package.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need moon clips to load and shoot .40 S&W in this revolver?

No. The Pitbull's patented extractor system grips rimless .40 cartridges directly in each chamber without moon clips. You load and eject standard .40 S&W ammunition just like any other revolver—faster reloads, zero fuss.

What makes the nitride finish different from standard revolver finishes?

Nitride is a hardening process that increases surface hardness and reduces friction and wear. It resists scratches better than traditional blueing or parkerizing, helping your gun stay looking and functioning like new through extended use.

Is the Charter Arms Pitbull .40 suitable for carry or home defense?

Yes. At 20 ounces with a 2.3-inch barrel, it's light and compact enough for carry, and the five-round .40 caliber capacity makes it a credible defensive option. The full rubber grip and standard hammer support both single- and double-action shooting.

What's the grip like on this revolver?

It comes with a full rubber grip, which provides solid purchase and helps manage recoil from .40 S&W loads without tiring your hand during extended shooting sessions.
