The Charter Arms Mag Pug .357 Magnum revolver is a compact, hard-hitting option for shooters who need serious stopping power in a lightweight package. Built on a stainless steel frame with a black nitride finish, this 5-shot revolver delivers the ballistic authority of .357 Magnum in a form factor small enough for nightstand access or everyday carry — tipping the scales at just 23 ounces. The 2.2-inch ported barrel helps manage recoil while keeping the gun short enough to handle in tight spaces, and the full-size grip gives you a solid purchase even with larger hands.

The Mag Pug carries the traditional spurred hammer familiar to revolver shooters, paired with fixed sights for no-frills reliability. There's no electronics to fail, no safeties to fumble in an emergency—just point and shoot. The ported barrel reduces muzzle jump, which matters when you're shooting .357 loads at speed. This is a workhorse for home defense, vehicle backup, or anyone who respects the .357 Magnum's decades-long reputation for terminal performance.

Charter Arms has built a reputation on making rugged, affordable revolvers, and the Mag Pug slots neatly into that mission. If you want genuine magnum power in a gun that fits inside a safe or under a pillow, this five-shot does the job without breaking the bank or the sight picture on rapid strings of fire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Charter Arms Mag Pug a good home defense revolver?

Yes. The .357 Magnum caliber, 5-shot capacity, and compact 2.2-inch barrel make it suited to home defense. The lightweight frame and ported barrel help manage recoil, and the traditional hammer design offers both single and double-action options. Fixed sights and a straightforward manual of arms mean no complicated features to learn under stress.

Will the ported barrel really reduce recoil?

Porting redirects some of the muzzle gases to reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil. This helps with follow-up shots and target recovery, especially important in a lightweight revolver shooting full-power .357 Magnum ammunition.

What ammunition can I safely shoot in the Mag Pug?

The revolver is chambered in .357 Magnum. You can also fire .38 Special ammunition in a .357 chamber—many shooters prefer .38 Special for practice or lower-recoil shooting in this frame size. Always use ammunition appropriate to .357 Magnum or .38 Special specifications.

What does the black nitride finish do?

Nitride is a hard, thin surface treatment that improves corrosion resistance and durability compared to bare stainless steel. It provides a matte-black appearance and helps protect the stainless frame from rust and wear.
