The Winchester Model 1885 in 6.5 Creedmoor is a modern take on a rifle design that's earned its reputation through a century of match wins and field performance. This single-shot falling-block rifle pairs the mechanical strength and accuracy potential of Winchester's classic action with contemporary features—a 24-inch barrel, walnut stock, and hardware you'll actually want to show off. It's built for shooters who value precision over rapid fire: long-range hunters, precision rifle competitors, and anyone who appreciates the simplicity and reliability of a well-made single shot.
The falling-block action is inherently strong and repeatable—no multi-part bolt assembly means fewer variables in lockup. The 6.5 Creedmoor chambering is a proven long-range round with excellent ballistics and readily available factory ammunition, making it practical for both range work and field hunting. Winchester drilled and tapped the receiver for a scope mount, so you're ready to glass up without gunsmithing. The polished blue finish on the steel and high-grade walnut stock give the rifle a finished, classic look that doesn't sacrifice durability.
Comfort matters on a rifle you'll shoot repeatedly. The Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad absorbs felt recoil, keeping shooting sessions pleasant whether you're breaking in loads at the bench or hunting in the field. The 22 LPI checkering on the stock is both functional—it grips your hand—and traditional in appearance. This is a rifle that handles like it was made by people who shoot, not designed by committee.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the falling-block action, and why does it matter for accuracy?
A falling-block action (also called a dropping-block) is a single-shot mechanism where a hinged breechblock moves vertically to open and close. Because it's a simple, strong design with minimal moving parts, lockup is rock-solid and repeatable—ideal for precision shooting. The Winchester Model 1885 design has been proven in accuracy competitions and field use for over a century.
Is the 6.5 Creedmoor suitable for long-range hunting and target shooting?
Yes. The 6.5 Creedmoor is a modern, purpose-built cartridge with excellent ballistics, low recoil, and proven accuracy at distance. Ammunition is widely available from major manufacturers, making it practical for both range and field use.
What's included with the rifle, and what do I need to add?
The rifle ships with a one-piece scope base and sling swivel studs. You'll need to add your own riflescope and sling. The receiver is already drilled and tapped, so mounting an optic is straightforward.
Can I use this rifle for hunting, or is it primarily a target rifle?
The Model 1885 is equally at home hunting or on the range. The 6.5 Creedmoor is effective for medium and large game, and the single-shot design doesn't limit hunting application—you get one well-aimed shot. Many hunters prefer the simplicity and mechanical reliability of a single-shot rifle.
