The Winchester Model 1885 in .22 Hornet with a 24-inch walnut-stocked barrel is a modern take on one of the most storied single-shot rifle designs in American shooting history. This falling-block rifle combines the proven strength and simplicity of the 1885 action—trusted for over a century across countless calibers and disciplines—with the kind of fit and finish that rewards serious shooters. Whether you're heading to the range for precision work or into the field after varmints, the Model 1885's compact .22 Hornet configuration delivers the accuracy and handling that made the original famous.
Built on a falling-block action known for its solid lockup and consistent performance, this rifle features a full-octagon barrel finished in polished blue steel and dressed in high-grade walnut. The stock sports 22 LPI checkering for a secure grip, and a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad helps manage felt recoil during extended shooting sessions. The receiver is drilled and tapped from the factory, so you can mount optics without guesswork. One-piece scope base and sling swivel studs come standard, giving you everything needed to get the rifle into action quickly.
The .22 Hornet cartridge pairs naturally with this compact platform—light recoiling enough for extended range time, powerful enough for varmint hunting, and accurate enough to make every shot count. If you appreciate rifles that look as good as they shoot, or if you're drawn to the heritage and reliability of proven falling-block design, the Model 1885 stands apart in a market of modern sporting rifles.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Winchester Model 1885 single-shot?
Yes. The Model 1885 is a single-shot rifle with a falling-block action. You load and eject one round at a time, which is part of its appeal for precision shooting and hunting situations where a single accurate shot is the goal.
Can I mount a scope on the Model 1885?
Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped from the factory for scope mounting, and a one-piece scope base is included with the rifle. This makes it straightforward to install an optic suited to your hunting or range work.
What does the .22 Hornet caliber do well?
The .22 Hornet is a light-recoiling, accurate cartridge well-suited to varmint hunting and extended range sessions. It's powerful enough for small game and varmints at reasonable distances, yet gentle on the shooter—especially appreciated in a rifle with a lightweight, compact design like this one.
