Winchester 70 Super Grade .280 Rem Stain - 535203227
- Caliber-Gauge:
- 280 Remington
The Winchester 70 Super Grade in .280 Remington is a refined, classic bolt-action rifle built for hunters and shooters who appreciate craftsmanship as much as performance. This isn't a tactical platform or a budget workhorse—it's a purpose-built hunting rifle that combines traditional aesthetics with proven accuracy features, all wrapped in Grade IV/V fancy walnut that catches the light and turns heads at the range or in the field. The .280 Remington is a time-tested cartridge that bridges the gap between flat-shooting efficiency and adequate power for medium to large game, making this Winchester a genuinely versatile choice for folks who want one rifle that does it all well.
The action is where Winchester's engineering shines. The forged steel receiver is bedded front and rear with an integral recoil lug, a design that locks the barreled action into the stock with zero play—critical for the kind of zero-shift-free accuracy that matters on a 300-yard stalk or a 500-yard prairie dog town. The cold hammer-forged, free-floated barrel and recessed target crown protect the rifling and support consistent shot placement. The controlled round feed system and claw extractor follow the pre-'64 Winchester tradition, meaning the action fully controls the cartridge from magazine to chamber to ejection—no surprises, no fumbles when you need reliability.
Handling and comfort are baked in. The shadowline cheekpiece naturally aligns your eye with a scope, so you're not craning your neck. The M.O.A. trigger system delivers zero take-up, zero creep, and zero overtravel—exactly what you want when the shot matters. A three-position safety lets you know at a glance whether you're ready to shoot. The Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad keeps the .280's modest kick manageable over a long day, and the one-piece bottom metal with steel floorplate adds rigidity while the decorative crossbolt reinforces both structure and style. Sling swivel studs come inletted and ready for your favorite carry rig.
This is a rifle for the hunter or long-range shooter who refuses to compromise on either aesthetics or accuracy, and who understands that a well-made rifle is an investment, not an expense.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Winchester 70 Super Grade different from other .280 hunting rifles?
The Super Grade combines a controlled-feed action with a bedded, free-floated barrel and a match-grade trigger—all housed in fancy walnut and polished steel. The forged receiver bedded front and rear, plus the integral recoil lug, eliminate shift and deliver consistent accuracy. It's a thoughtfully engineered rifle for serious hunters and shooters, not a generic commodity.
Is the .280 Remington effective for hunting?
Yes. The .280 Remington is a proven cartridge with a long track record in North American hunting. It combines flat trajectory with adequate power for medium and large game, and the rifle's 24-inch barrel supports good velocity and a manageable profile for field use.
Can I mount a scope on this rifle?
The shadowline cheekpiece is designed to naturally align your eye with scope-mounted optics. The rifle ships without a scope, so you'll need to mount one and have it properly zeroed before hunting or long-range shooting.
What's included with the rifle?
The Winchester 70 Super Grade includes the rifle with sling swivel studs inletted and ready. A sling, ammunition, and optics are not included and must be purchased separately.
