The Winchester 1873 Carbine in .357/.38 is a modern take on one of America's most iconic lever-action rifles. Chambered in the versatile .357 Magnum/.38 Special cartridge, this carbine brings decades of proven design together with the practical appeal of a caliber that works equally well for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. The satin oil finish gives it a classic, field-ready appearance that ages well and resists corrosion in the field.

Lever-action carbines like this are prized by hunters who value quick follow-up shots in brush or timber, shooters who appreciate mechanical simplicity, and anyone drawn to the heritage and reliability of Winchester's legendary action. The .357/.38 pairing means you can fire either cartridge from the same rifle—handy flexibility whether you're working with factory .357 Magnum loads or cheaper .38 Special rounds at the range.

Winchester built its reputation on rifles that work when it matters. The 1873 platform has proven itself across more than a century and a half of hard use. This carbine honors that legacy while delivering a rifle that handles like a dream in close to moderate range scenarios where a lever gun truly shines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shoot both .357 Magnum and .38 Special in this carbine?

Yes. The Winchester 1873 Carbine is chambered to fire both .357 Magnum and .38 Special rounds safely and reliably.

What's the difference between the 1873 Carbine and a full-length rifle?

A carbine has a shorter barrel and overall length, making it faster to maneuver in brush, timber, or from a vehicle—ideal for hunting thick cover or situations where a compact profile matters.

Is the satin oil finish good for outdoor use?

Satin oil provides a durable, classic finish that offers corrosion resistance and a field-ready appearance. Like all oil finishes, it benefits from occasional maintenance in harsh conditions, but it's well-suited to hunting and regular use.
