The Winchester 1873 .357 Mag/.38 Spl lever action short rifle is an authentic reproduction of one of America's most iconic firearms—a rifle that shaped the frontier and remains a favorite among cowboy action shooters, hunters, and collectors today. This 20-barrel model chambers both .357 Magnum and .38 Special, letting you shoot the same ammunition your handguns use. With its oil-finished walnut stock, blued steel furniture, and classic profile, it delivers genuine Winchester heritage in a handling package that works just as well at the range or in the field as it does in a display case.
What sets the 1873 apart is its lever-action reliability and straightforward elegance. The action cycles smoothly thanks to a steel loading gate, while the round barrel and full-length magazine tube hold 10 rounds of .357 Mag or 11 rounds of .38 Special. Sights are practical too: a Marble Arms gold bead front and semi-buckhorn rear keep you on target, and the receiver tang is drilled and tapped so you can add an optional tang-mounted rear sight for finer precision if you want it. At 7 pounds 4 ounces and 39 inches overall, it balances speed and control without being a burden to carry.
If you're serious about lever guns—whether you're running cowboy action competitions, hunting medium game, or building a collection of rifles that actually mean something—the Winchester 1873 is the real deal. No clones, no rebrands, just the gun itself: a working rifle with undeniable pedigree and the kind of ergonomic simplicity that has outlasted trends for nearly 150 years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use both .357 Magnum and .38 Special in this rifle?
Yes. The Winchester 1873 is chambered for both .357 Magnum and .38 Special, so you can load either caliber without any changes to the rifle. This flexibility is one reason cowboy action shooters favor the 1873—you can use the same ammo your handguns shoot.
Will this work for cowboy action shooting?
Absolutely. The lever action design, dual-caliber capability, and classic profile make the Winchester 1873 a staple in cowboy action competitions. The reliable feeding, manageable recoil, and practical iron sights suit the sport well.
What sights does it come with?
It ships with a Marble Arms gold bead front sight and a semi-buckhorn rear sight. The receiver is also drilled and tapped at the rear tang, so you can mount an optional tang-mounted rear sight if you want a higher, more precise sight picture.
Is the stock really oil-finished walnut?
Yes. The stock is American walnut with a satin oil finish that has a smooth, velvet-like feel. It's the same traditional finish you'd find on an original Model 1873.
