The Taylors & Company 1873 Drifter is a .45LC revolver built for shooters who appreciate classic Cattleman styling with a distinctive edge. The full octagonal barrel is the standout feature here—it gives this single-action its own character while staying true to the lines of a traditional frontier revolver. Built on a new-model Cattleman frame, it's made from forged steel and designed with shooters and collectors in mind, whether you're running it at the range, in the field, or displaying it as part of a working collection.

A 7.5-inch octagon barrel strikes a practical balance: long enough for decent velocity and sight radius, short enough to handle without feeling unwieldy. The .45 Colt cartridge remains one of the most versatile handgun rounds out there—reliable, forgiving, and powerful enough for hunting or defensive use if that's your lane. The fixed front blade sight and rear frame notch keep things simple and authentic; there's no fuss, just capable iron sights that work.

Finish-wise, you get a blue barrel and cylinder paired with a case-hardened frame, a combination that looks the part and holds up to honest use. Walnut grips give you a comfortable, solid feel in your hand. At 2.70 lbs and just over 13 inches overall, it carries naturally and handles well. If you want to dial in your trigger or smooth out the action, Taylors offers their Taylor Tuning service—a nice option if you want to get the most out of your gun.

If you're shopping for a working single-action revolver that doesn't look like every other Cattleman on the rack, the octagonal barrel makes the Drifter worth a closer look. Solid build, classic appeal, and enough substance to back up the aesthetics.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an octagonal barrel and a round barrel?

The octagonal barrel on the Drifter is primarily a style choice that harks back to classic revolver design. It gives the gun a more traditional, distinctive look compared to the standard round barrel found on many modern Cattlemans. Both are equally functional; the octagon is purely about aesthetics and heritage.

Is the .45 Colt a good choice for hunting or defense?

The .45 Colt is a proven, versatile round. It's powerful enough for medium-game hunting and has a long track record as a defensive cartridge. Performance depends on your ammunition choice and specific application, so match your loads to your intended use.

Can the action be customized?

Yes. Taylors & Company offers Taylor Tuning service, which allows you to have the trigger and action refined and smoothed. This is a great option if you want to improve the gun's handling after you've had a chance to shoot it.

What sights does this revolver have?

The Drifter comes with fixed iron sights: a front blade sight and a rear notch cut into the frame. These are simple, reliable, and true to the traditional single-action revolver design. They're also easy to use and require no adjustments.
