The Taylors & Company 1873 Straight Stock .45 LC lever-action rifle carries forward the heritage of one of the most iconic repeating rifles ever built. With an 18-inch octagonal barrel and classic walnut furniture, this rifle combines compact handling with the time-tested reliability that made the 1873 a favorite among civilians and military users alike. Whether you're after a short-barreled lever gun for brush hunting, cowboy action shooting, or simply prefer the romance of period-correct American gunmaking, this straight-stock variant delivers authentic lines and practical performance in a gun that's genuinely pleasant to carry and shoot.
At 7.7 pounds and just 37 inches overall, the 1873 Straight Stock balances pointability with shootability. The .45 LC chambering puts serious stopping power in a package that's quick to shoulder and maneuverable in tight quarters—ideal if you're working through timber or prefer a rifle that doesn't hang up on brush and structures. The case-hardened frame gives the gun a classic appearance that only improves with honest use, while the smooth walnut straight stock and forend feel good in your hands and won't snag on clothing or gear.
Iron sights come standard: a buckhorn rear and blade front sight ready for CAS matches, hunting, or recreational shooting right out of the box. Taylors & Company also offers custom action packages on their 1873 line if you decide you want a lighter trigger, smoother action, or upgraded components down the road—a thoughtful touch that lets you build the rifle exactly how you want it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the practical range for the 1873 Straight Stock with iron sights?
Iron sights are practical to 75–100 yards for most shooters. The buckhorn rear and blade front are traditional sights; for longer-range precision, many shooters upgrade to a receiver-mounted optic or peep sight, which the rifle can accommodate.
Is the 1873 Straight Stock suitable for hunting?
Yes. The .45 LC is a proven hunting round for medium game at moderate range, and the compact 18-inch barrel is easy to carry in brush or from horseback. The light weight and quick handling make it ideal for hunters who value maneuverability over maximum velocity.
Does it come with a magazine or loading system I need to buy separately?
No—the rifle comes as a complete, shootable firearm with the magazine tube and sights ready to go. You'll just need ammunition and a cleaning kit to get started.
Can I upgrade the action or trigger pull later?
Yes. Taylors & Company offers custom action packages (including the Comanchero and Taylor Tuned options) that can be ordered, allowing you to enhance the trigger, action smoothness, and other internals if desired.
