The Taylors & Company 1873 Cattleman .45 LC revolver is a historically inspired six-shooter built for shooters who appreciate classic single-action design with modern craftsmanship. This 4.75-inch barrel model splits the difference between the compact and full-size versions, making it equally at home at the range, in a cowboy-action match, or as a working sixgun for hunters and backcountry travelers. The photo engraving on the frame sets it apart from plain-jane reproductions—it's a nod to the Victorian aesthetics of the original Colt designs without sacrificing function.

Built on the proven 1873 platform, this Cattleman delivers the ergonomics and reliability that made single-actions legendary. The white heat-treated finish with charcoal-blue screws gives you a period-correct appearance with practical durability. Walnut grips feel right in your hand after hours at the range, and the blade front sight is simple and effective for the distances most shooters actually use. At just over two pounds and 10.25 inches overall, it's manageable enough for extended shooting sessions without fatigue.

Whether you're a Cowboy Action Shooting (SASS) competitor, a historical arms enthusiast, or someone who simply prefers the trigger control and reliability of a single-action revolver, the Taylors & Company 1873 Cattleman is a straightforward, honest tool. The .45 LC chambering gives you flexibility in ammunition choice and power without the recoil penalty of magnum cartridges, and the 6-round capacity is standard for the platform. This isn't a tacticool reimagining—it's a working gun that respects its lineage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Cattleman suitable for Cowboy Action Shooting or SASS competition?

Yes. The 1873 platform is the standard for SASS events, and the 4.75-inch barrel is one of the most common competition choices. The single-action trigger and six-round capacity meet the requirements of most cowboy-action matches.

What's the difference between the 4.75-inch and other barrel lengths in the 1873 Cattleman line?

The 4.75-inch is a middle-ground option—longer than compact "Birdshead" models for better sight radius and handling, but shorter and more nimble than full-length versions. It's a great all-purpose length for range work and field use.

Can I carry this revolver for hunting or backcountry use?

At 2.27 lbs and 10.25 inches overall, the Cattleman is light enough for extended carry. The .45 LC delivers adequate power for medium game and defensive situations at typical hunting distances, and the reliable single-action mechanism is field-proven.

What does the photo engraving add to this model?

The engraving is a cosmetic enhancement that replicates the Victorian-era detailing found on original Colt 1873 Peacemakers. It's purely aesthetic and does not affect function—it's for shooters who appreciate the visual authenticity of classic single-action design.
