The Taylors & Company 1858 Remington Conversion .38 Special revolver brings a piece of American firearms history to modern shooters who appreciate single-action wheelguns with authentic character. Model 1010 is a faithful reproduction of the Remington New Model Army revolver—one of the most iconic percussion revolvers of the Civil War era—converted to fire centerfire .38 Special cartridges. This is the revolver for shooters who want a working classic: reliable, straightforward, and built to handle real ammunition without the fuss of black powder and caps.

The 1858 Remington conversion sits at a sweet spot between nostalgia and practicality. Its single-action trigger, fixed blade sights, and 6-round capacity make it equally at home at the range, in the field, or as a faithful recreation for historical shooting sports. The 7.375-inch octagonal barrel delivers the balance and sight radius that define the design, while the 2-piece walnut grips provide a classic, comfortable hold. At 2.55 pounds, it carries without fatigue and handles with the deliberate, purposeful feel that old-school revolver shooters expect.

The blued finish gives the 1858 Remington conversion a traditional appearance that honors the original, with the overall length of 13.175 inches keeping the gun maneuverable and period-correct. Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the 1858 Remington conversion use?

This revolver fires .38 Special cartridges—standard centerfire ammunition widely available at any gun shop or online retailer. That's the main advantage of the conversion: you get the classic 1858 Remington look and handling without needing black powder, percussion caps, or the extra steps of a traditional cap-and-ball revolver.

Is this suitable for cowboy action shooting or historical reenactment?

Yes. The Taylors & Company 1858 Remington conversion is a faithful reproduction of the original percussion revolver and works well in single-action shooting sports. Check your specific event or club rules, as some activities have caliber or configuration requirements.

How does the single-action mechanism work?

You manually cock the hammer before each shot. This deliberate, mechanical process is part of the appeal for many shooters—it connects you directly to the gun's operation and gives you full control over the trigger press. It's the same operation as most classic single-action revolvers.
