The Taylors & Company 1875 No. 3 Schofield .38 Spl revolver is a faithful reproduction of one of the Old West's most iconic firearms. Built on the proven break-top design that made the original Schofield legendary among cavalry troops, lawmen, and frontier shooters, this blue-finish revolver delivers authentic handling and quick reloads in a package that works just as well at the range or in the hunting field as it did in the saddle 150 years ago.

The break-open mechanism is the star here. Flip the release and the barrel and cylinder tip down, instantly ejecting all six spent casings—a huge advantage over traditional swing-cylinder designs when speed matters. That's why mounted soldiers favored it, and why modern shooters who appreciate smooth mechanical operation still reach for Schofield-style revolvers. The walnut grips feel substantial and period-correct, the case-hardened trigger guard adds visual appeal and durability, and the lanyard ring means you can secure it if needed.

Chambered in .38 Special, this is a shooter-friendly cartridge with mild recoil and plenty of factory and handload options. The 7-inch barrel gives you solid sight radius and good velocity, while the overall length of 12.8 inches keeps it well-balanced and handleable. At 2.60 lbs, it's light enough for all-day carry in a leather rig but substantial enough to feel solid in hand. The fixed blade front sight is simple and effective—no fancy optics needed for the distances where a revolver lives.

Whether you're into historical firearms, single-action hunting, Cowboy Action shooting, or just want a revolver with genuine mechanical character and a story behind it, the Taylors & Company Schofield delivers. This isn't a carry gun built for modern tactical doctrine; it's a classic revolver for shooters who value heritage, reliability, and the satisfaction of a mechanical design that's proven across generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a Schofield revolver different from a swing-cylinder revolver?

The Schofield features a break-open action where the barrel and cylinder tip down from the frame when you press the release. This instantly ejects all six spent cartridges at once—a huge speed advantage over ejecting casings one at a time with a swing-cylinder design. It's why the original Schofield was prized by cavalry soldiers who needed to reload while mounted.

Is the Taylors & Company Schofield a historically accurate reproduction?

Yes. This revolver is modeled after the Smith & Wesson Schofield design and includes period-correct details like the hump-backed backstrap, walnut grips, case-hardened trigger guard, and lanyard ring. The blue finish, blade front sight, and break-top mechanism are all authentic to the original design.

What ammunition does this revolver use?

The 1875 No. 3 Schofield is chambered in .38 Special, a widely available and shootable cartridge. You'll find plenty of factory options and can handload if you're into that. The 6-round capacity and 7-inch barrel give you solid ballistics for the round.

Is this revolver suitable for hunting?

With a 7-inch barrel and .38 Special chambering, this is best suited to close- to mid-range hunting applications where the cartridge's performance is appropriate. The classic sights and mechanical simplicity make it straightforward to shoot, though hunters should verify the revolver's accuracy and their own proficiency before field use.
