The Savage Arms Stevens 555 20ga over/under shotgun in oil brown finish delivers real performance without the premium price tag that comes with some competitors. This lightweight 20-gauge is built for hunters and sport shooters who want a reliable, fast-handling gun that won't wear you out on a long day in the field. The aluminum receiver keeps weight down while maintaining the strength needed for consistent, dependable shooting—a smart engineering choice that makes a real difference when you're moving through brush or spending hours at the clay course.

What makes the Stevens 555 stand out is how much capability Savage packed into an accessible over/under design. The 28-inch chrome-lined carbon steel barrels are tuned for clean patterns and longevity, and the Turkish walnut furniture gives the gun a working-gun aesthetic that ages well. The single selective mechanical trigger lets you choose which barrel fires first, and the manual extractors are straightforward—no complexity, no battery, no failure points to worry about. The tang-mounted safety is positioned where your hand naturally goes, making it intuitive to use whether you're right- or left-handed.

Versatility comes standard. The gun ships with a complete set of choke tubes—Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder—so you can tune the pattern for everything from tighter upland birds to close-quarters jump shooting or clay targets. That flexibility alone saves you money down the road and keeps one gun relevant across different seasons and scenarios.

Frequently Asked Questions

What choke tubes come with the Stevens 555?

The gun includes five choke tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder. This range lets you match your setup to different birds, ranges, and shooting scenarios without buying extras upfront.

Is the Stevens 555 a good shotgun for hunting and clay sports?

Yes—the lightweight aluminum receiver and 28-inch barrels are balanced for both. The interchangeable choke tubes make it easy to switch between hunting applications and clay shooting, and the single selective trigger gives you control over which barrel fires first. One gun, multiple purposes.

What makes the aluminum receiver on the Stevens 555 different?

Aluminum is significantly lighter than steel, which reduces fatigue during long hunting days or extended shooting sessions. It's strong enough for standard hunting and sport loads, and Savage's design ensures reliable performance without extra weight penalty.

Does the Stevens 555 have automatic ejectors or manual extractors?

The Stevens 555 uses manual extractors. When you open the gun, the extractors lift spent shells from the chambers so you can remove them by hand—a simple, proven design with no moving parts to fail.
