The Savage Arms Stevens 555 E is a 12-gauge over-and-under shotgun built for shooters who want real performance without the premium price tag. This Model 22592 combines a lightweight aluminum receiver with a reinforced steel breech insert—a smart engineering move that keeps the gun nimble in the field while maintaining the strength you need for consistent shooting. Whether you're working upland birds, running clay courses, or hunting waterfowl, the 555 E delivers the handling speed and reliability that matter when it counts.

The stock and fore-end are shaped from Imperial walnut and finished in oil brown, giving the shotgun a refined, classic appearance that ages well. The receiver is laser-engraved with filigree ornament work, adding character without flash. You get a manual safety and a single, selective mechanical trigger—straightforward controls that keep you focused on the shot. The auto shell ejector handles empties efficiently, so reloading is fast and clean.

This over-and-under is purpose-built for hunters and sport shooters who value balance, handling, and value. The aluminum receiver is scaled to 12-gauge proportions, so the gun doesn't carry unnecessary weight, and the steel breech reinforcement ensures this shotgun will last. Wood being a natural material, color variation is normal and part of the character of the piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Stevens 555 E suitable for hunting?

The 12-gauge over-and-under design and light, fast-handling profile make it ideal for upland hunting, waterfowl, and field work. The aluminum receiver keeps weight down for extended hunts, while the reinforced breech ensures durability through regular use.

Does the 555 E work for clay shooting?

Yes. The single, selective mechanical trigger and auto ejector make the 555 E practical for sport shooting and clay courses. Its responsive handling supports good gun mount and target acquisition.

What's the difference between the aluminum receiver and a traditional steel receiver?

The aluminum receiver reduces overall weight without sacrificing strength because it's paired with a steel insert at the breech—the area that sees the highest pressures. This design choice keeps the gun nimble while maintaining reliability.

Will the walnut stock color be consistent?

Imperial walnut is a natural material, so color variation between examples is normal. The oil brown finish enhances the wood's character and patina over time.
