The Remington 700 .270 Winchester bolt-action rifle is a hard-hitting centerfire workhorse built for hunters who want precision and reliability in a proven platform. This 24" barreled Model R68888 combines the legendary 700 action with modern manufacturing and thoughtful ergonomics—including a tool-less firing pin design that makes field cleaning and maintenance genuinely quick. The .270 Winchester round delivers flat trajectory and consistent energy for whitetail, elk, and other medium to large game across varied ranges and conditions.

This rifle comes dressed in practical black, with a carbon fiber composite stock from AG that balances weight and durability. The Elite Hunter Timney straight trigger breaks cleanly at 3 pounds, giving you predictable let-off without creep. You get a fluted 5R barrel with an 11-degree target crown, precision-ground recoil lugs, and a modernized bolt featuring a changeable handle and enlarged ejection port. The receiver wears an 8-40 Picatinny rail for easy scope mounting, and the aluminum Oberndorf-style trigger guard is built tough.

Setup details matter on a rifle this serious. The internal magazine box is longer than standard to accommodate longer cartridge cases, though if you plan to use this rifle in an older 700 stock, you'll need inletting work to fit the new magazine well. The Pachmayr recoil pad on the composite stock tames .270 recoil without adding unnecessary weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the .270 Winchester good for hunting?

The .270 Winchester is a flat-shooting, proven cartridge that delivers effective velocity and energy for medium to large game like deer and elk. It's been a hunter's favorite for decades because it balances trajectory, wind resistance, and bullet availability across a wide range of shooting distances.

Is this rifle compatible with older Remington 700 stocks?

This Model 700 can fit into older 700 stocks, but the internal magazine box is longer than the original design. You'll need inletting work on an older stock to accommodate the new, extended magazine well.

What's included with the rifle, and what scope rail setup does it have?

The rifle ships with a Picatinny rail on the receiver using 8-40 scope thread screws for mounting optics. It comes ready for scope rings and a mounted scope—you'll need to supply those separately to complete your setup.

How easy is it to clean and maintain this rifle?

The tool-less firing pin disassembly design makes field stripping and cleaning significantly faster than traditional 700 models. You can break down the firing pin without tools, so you can do basic maintenance and cleaning anywhere.
