The Mossberg 590S Shockwave 12 gauge shotgun with 18.5" barrel is a pump-action workhorse built for hunters and sport shooters who demand flexibility without compromise. What sets the 590S apart is its ability to cycle three different shell lengths—1.75", 2.75", and 3"—interchangeably, straight from the box. That means you can load a magazine with a mix of shell lengths to match your shooting situation, whether you're hunting upland birds, running clay targets, or keeping one at the ready for home defense. The Shockwave's short barrel and pistol-grip design keep things compact and maneuverable in tight spaces.
Mossberg engineered the 590S with three key upgrades to achieve that shell-cycling flexibility: a redesigned elevator and bolt slide, plus an energy-absorbing bumper that lets the gun handle different shell pressures and lengths without missing a beat. The pump mechanism itself is a Mossberg proven design—dual extractors, twin action bars, and positive steel-to-steel lockup keep everything running smooth and reliable. You get a top-mounted ambidextrous safety, so whether you're right or left-handed, manipulating the gun is natural. The M-LOK compatible forend lets you attach lights, slings, or other accessories if you want to customize your setup.
With an 18.5" barrel, you'll get nine rounds of 1.75" shells (9+1), six rounds of 2.75" shells (6+1), or five rounds of 3" shells (5+1) ready in the magazine. The bead sight keeps you on target, while the matte finish on the receiver and barrel handles hard use without unnecessary shine. This is a no-nonsense shotgun for serious shooters—reliable, adaptable, and built to last.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 590S Shockwave handle different shell lengths without adjustment?
Yes. The 590S is designed to cycle 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells interchangeably, and you can even load them in any combination in the same magazine. No tools or adjustments needed—Mossberg's redesigned elevator, bolt slide, and energy-absorbing bumper handle the pressure and length differences.
How many shells does the 18.5" barrel hold?
Capacity depends on shell length. The magazine will hold 9+1 rounds of 1.75" shells, 6+1 rounds of 2.75" shells, or 5+1 rounds of 3" shells.
Is the 590S Shockwave good for home defense or hunting?
The short 18.5" barrel and pistol grip make it maneuverable in tight indoor spaces, so it's well-suited to home defense. The ability to mix shell lengths also makes it flexible for different hunting scenarios. It's a versatile shotgun, though your choice depends on your specific needs and local regulations.
Can I add a light or sling to the 590S Shockwave?
Yes. The forend is M-LOK compatible, so you can mount lights, slings, or other M-LOK accessories to customize the shotgun for your setup.
