The Mossberg 590S Tactical Shotgun is a 12-gauge pump-action built for shooters who need real versatility in a fighting shotgun. With an 18.5" barrel and 9+1 capacity, it's short enough for tight spaces—vehicle, home defense, or tactical training—while delivering the reliability Mossberg's 590 line is known for. What sets the 590S apart from other tactical shotguns is its ability to cycle 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells without modification: load any mix of shell lengths and the gun handles them all without adapters or fiddling. That flexibility means you can match your ammo to your mission without buying a different shotgun.

The receiver comes factory-cut to mount Shield RMSc-pattern micro dot sights directly to the top—a genuine modern-duty feature that improves sight picture and target acquisition. If you're not running a red dot yet, Mossberg includes a coverplate to keep the mounting area clean. You get pump-action fundamentals that work: dual extractors, twin action bars, positive steel-to-steel lockup, and an anti-jam elevator. The top-mounted ambidextrous safety puts control where you need it, and the cleanout magazine tube design lets you clear obstructions in the field without breaking the gun down.

Whether you're building a home-defense setup, running tactical courses, or hunting upland game, the 590S gives you a single shotgun that adapts to the job instead of forcing you to adapt to the gun. That's the appeal: one shotgun, multiple shell options, multiple missions, zero excuses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the 590S really shoot different length shotshells without an adapter?

Yes. The 590S features a redesigned elevator, bolt slide, and energy-absorbing bumper that allow it to cycle 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells right out of the box—no adapters, no modifications. You can load all three lengths in the same magazine tube and the shotgun will cycle them reliably.

What kind of red dot sight can I mount on the 590S?

The receiver is cut to accept low-profile red dots that follow the Shield RMSc pattern for direct mounting. A coverplate is included if you're not running an optic mounted on those cuts.

Is this shotgun suitable for home defense or tactical use?

The 18.5" barrel and 9+1 capacity make it well-suited for home defense and tactical applications. The top-mounted ambidextrous safety and reliable pump action are foundational for both roles, and the receiver cuts allow you to add modern optics for faster target acquisition.

What's included with the Mossberg 590S?

The shotgun comes with the coverplate for the optic-ready receiver. Specific items and accessories beyond that are not detailed in the product information available.
