The Mossberg 590 Shockwave 12ga shotgun is a compact, maneuverable pump-action designed for home defense and tactical use without the regulatory burden of NFA paperwork. At just 26-1/2" overall length with a 14" barrel, this firearm fits tight spaces where full-size shotguns can't go, yet cycles reliable 12-gauge firepower: 5+1 capacity in 2-3/4" or 3" shells. The signature bird's head Raptor grip replaces a traditional buttstock, maximizing control and reducing felt recoil—a smart choice if you need a defensive shotgun that's faster to deploy and easier to handle in confined areas than a conventional 870 or 500.
Built on a lightweight anodized aluminum receiver, the 590 Shockwave pairs durability with steel-to-steel lockup between the bolt and barrel for years of dependable service. The corncob-style forearm includes a nylon strap to anchor your support hand, delivering smooth, non-binding pump operation backed by twin action bars and dual shell extractors that keep the gun running clean. An open bottom loading port and ambidextrous top safety make this shotgun equally at home for right- or left-handed shooters. A sling swivel on the magazine cap gives you mounting options if you want to secure it in a vehicle or tote it hands-free.
Unlike short-barreled shotguns regulated under federal law, the 590 Shockwave operates under a specific ATF exemption—no tax stamp, no NFA paperwork required at the federal level. (That said, always verify your state and local shotgun regulations before purchase.) If you're hunting for a no-nonsense defense shotgun that doesn't compromise on features or reliability, the 590 Shockwave delivers Mossberg's proven pump-action legacy in a package built for the real world.
