The Mossberg 590 pump-action shotgun in .410 gauge is a compact, maneuverable option for shooters who value handling and reduced recoil. This 7-shot model (6+1 capacity) features an 18.5-inch barrel and 3-inch chamber, making it at home for sport shooting, training, or home defense where a lighter gauge and shorter profile suit your needs. The 590 line is built on decades of proven pump-gun reliability—fast, smooth cycling and dependable feeding that you can trust when it matters.

The .410 is often overlooked, but it delivers genuine versatility. Less punishing to shoot than 12 or 20 gauge, it's ideal for new shooters building fundamentals, and the compact 18.5-inch barrel makes it easy to move through doorways and tight spaces. A fixed stock with a 12.5-inch length of pull and synthetic construction keep weight down (7.5 lbs) and maintenance simple. The cylinder bore choke and simple bead sight are straightforward—no fuss, just functional.

Whether you're stocking a patrol gun, building a home-defense setup, or running steel matches where you want less recoil and faster splits, this 590 delivers Mossberg's no-nonsense engineering in a nimble package. The matte blued barrel and synthetic furniture stand up to regular handling, and the pump action is as reliable as shotguns get.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the .410 gauge different from 12 or 20 gauge?

The .410 fires a smaller, lighter payload than 12 or 20 gauge, producing less recoil and reduced muzzle rise. This makes it easier to shoot accurately, especially for new shooters or in rapid-fire scenarios where you want quick follow-up shots. It's a true working gauge—lighter to carry, faster to shoot, and still effective for sport and home defense.

Is the 18.5-inch barrel good for home defense or confined spaces?

Yes. The short barrel makes the shotgun easy to maneuver in hallways, vehicles, and tight quarters. At 38.12 inches overall, it's significantly shorter and more nimble than a full-length shotgun, reducing the chance of the muzzle catching on furniture or walls.

Can I shoot magnum .410 loads in this shotgun?

Yes. The 3-inch chamber is rated for 3-inch magnum .410 shells, giving you flexibility in load selection for different hunting or sport-shooting applications.

What's included, and what barrel length options does Mossberg offer for the 590?

We ship this model (50700) as configured—18.5-inch barrel with cylinder choke and bead sight. Mossberg makes the 590 in multiple barrel lengths and configurations; if you need a longer barrel or different sights, check our other Mossberg 590 listings or contact our team for options.
