The Mossberg 590 is an American workhorse that's earned its reputation through decades of reliable performance in the field and on the range. This pump-action 12-gauge shotgun delivers the dependability serious shooters expect, with a 7-round capacity and 18.5-inch barrel built for fast target acquisition and point-and-shoot handling. Whether you're running a home-defense drill, working clay courses, or hunting upland game, the 590 cycles smooth and points naturally—it's the kind of gun that gets out of your way and lets you shoot.

The Model 50778 comes with a fixed length of pull at 13.875 inches and a synthetic black stock that stands up to hard use without complaint. The 3-inch chamber handles both standard and magnum loads, giving you flexibility depending on your mission. Its cylinder bore choke—the tightest constriction available—patterns shot tight and far, a natural fit for slugs, buckshot, or bird loads depending on what you're after. The matte blued barrel and 41-inch overall length strike a practical balance between maneuverability and sight radius, and at 7.25 pounds, it won't wear you down over a long day.

This is genuine, no-frills shotgun engineering. The heat shield on the barrel keeps your hands safe during sustained fire, and the pump action is proven under every condition from mud to cold. The Mossberg 590 doesn't require a learning curve; it's as straightforward as shotguns get. That's why it lives in police car racks, home safes, and hunting trucks across the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ammunition does the Mossberg 590 shoot?

The 590 is a 12-gauge shotgun with a 3-inch chamber, so it accepts both 2.75-inch standard loads and 3-inch magnum ammunition. You can run birdshot, buckshot, slugs, or any 12-gauge load that fits those specifications.

Is the Mossberg 590 good for home defense?

Yes. The 18.5-inch barrel and 41-inch overall length make it compact and maneuverable indoors, while the 7-round capacity and reliable pump action give you immediate firepower. The cylinder bore choke patterns shot effectively at close range.

Can I adjust the length of pull?

The Model 50778 features a fixed length of pull at 13.875 inches. It is not adjustable.

What does the heat shield do?

The heat shield protects your hands and forearm from the hot barrel during rapid fire or sustained shooting sessions. It doesn't change the gun's function but makes it more comfortable to operate in high-volume drills.
