The Mossberg 500 Combo Field/Security 12-gauge pump shotgun delivers real versatility in a single, reliable platform. This is the gun that works whether you're hunting waterfowl and upland game one day or running home-defense drills the next—two factory barrels let you swap from a 28" field tube to an 18.5" security barrel in seconds, no gunsmith required. The 3" chamber handles both 2¾" and 3" loads, so you're never locked into one type of ammunition. It's built on the proven Mossberg 500 action, a design that's been trusted by hunters, sport shooters, and law enforcement for decades.

What makes this combo practical is that you get a complete, purpose-built setup out of the box. The longer barrel is threaded for Mossberg's Accu-Set choke system, giving you adjustability for different shot patterns and hunting scenarios; the security barrel comes cylinder bore, ready to run buck or slugs. Both barrels sport traditional dual-bead sights for quick target acquisition. Pump-action operation is smooth and intuitive—fast follow-up shots, simple manual safety, and the kind of reliability that doesn't ask questions when you need it to work. Wood furniture gives this shotgun classic handling and timeless appeal.

At 7.5 pounds, the Mossberg 500 Combo is comfortable to carry all day and points naturally. The fixed 13.875" length of pull fits most shooters off the shelf. Blued barrel finish and wood stock are proven, field-tested classics—they work in wet conditions and look as good after a season as they do new. Whether you're a hunter looking for one gun that handles multiple game birds, a property owner who wants a shotgun that covers both sport and security, or someone new to shotguns who values simplicity and value, this two-barrel package is hard to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use both 2¾" and 3" shells in this shotgun?

Yes. The 3" chamber safely fires both standard 2¾" loads and 3" magnum shells, giving you flexibility in ammunition choice and cost.

What's the difference between the two barrels?

The 28" field barrel comes with Mossberg's Accu-Set choke system for hunting various game birds and adjusting shot patterns. The 18.5" security barrel is cylinder bore for maximum pellet spread and is optimized for buckshot and slug loads. Both barrels have bead sights for quick aim.

Can I change out these barrels myself?

Yes. The Mossberg 500 is designed for easy barrel swaps—no special tools or gunsmith work required. You can switch between the field and security barrels in seconds.

Is this shotgun suitable for hunting and home defense?

That's exactly why this combo exists. The two-barrel setup covers both roles: use the 28" barrel for hunting upland game or waterfowl, and switch to the 18.5" security barrel for close-range home-defense training or property use.
