The Howa Standard Hunter .308 Win Walnut Rifle is a no-nonsense bolt-action rifle built for hunters who value reliability and tradition over trendy features. Chambered in .308 Winchester—one of the most versatile and available hunting cartridges in North America—this rifle handles everything from whitetail to elk with proven ballistics and stopping power. The classic Monte Carlo walnut stock gives it that timeless hunting rifle look, while the compact 22-inch barrel keeps it maneuverable in timber and brush without sacrificing the velocity this caliber demands.

What makes the Howa Hunter stand out is the combination of accuracy and value. The rifle comes with Howa's HACT trigger—a crisp, adjustable mechanism that promotes precision shooting—and the manufacturer backs it with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee. That means you're getting a rifle engineered to group tight enough for confident shots at hunting distances. The action is drilled and tapped from the factory, so mounting your preferred scope or red dot is straightforward. Threaded muzzle (5/8x24) gives you flexibility for a suppressor or muzzle brake down the road if you want it.

The handling is lean and purposeful: 7.2 pounds keeps fatigue down on long days afield, while the hinged floor plate and 4+1 capacity give you quick access to rounds. Sling swivel studs are ready for your favorite carry rig. The three-position safety is intuitive and reliable, and the rubber recoil pad helps absorb the .308's modest but noticeable kick. This is a rifle that'll outlast trends and serve multiple generations of hunters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this rifle scope-ready out of the box?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so you can mount any standard rifle scope without additional gunsmith work. The rifle ships with no sights, which is typical for this class—you'll need to add your optic of choice.

Can I use a suppressor on this rifle?

The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24, which is a standard thread pattern. You can attach a suppressor, muzzle brake, or other compatible device. Always check your local regulations regarding suppressors before purchase.

What ammunition does the .308 Winchester use, and how available is it?

.308 Winchester (also called 7.62 NATO) is one of the most common rifle cartridges in the world. Ammunition is widely available from most retailers and manufacturers, making this caliber practical for hunting and range work.

Is the HACT trigger adjustable, and how does it compare to factory triggers?

The HACT trigger is Howa's adjustable trigger and comes tuned for a clean break that supports precision shooting. Howa backs the rifle with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee, which speaks to the trigger's reliability and the rifle's overall capability.
