The Howa Standard Hunter .270 Winchester Walnut Rifle is a purpose-built bolt-action rifle that delivers reliability and accuracy at a fair price point. Chambered in .270 Winchester—a proven cartridge for whitetail and mule deer across the continent—this rifle combines a traditional walnut stock with a modern, rigid action designed to shoot sub-MOA groups. At 7.2 pounds and 41.5 inches overall, it balances portability with enough heft to manage recoil and steady your aim from field positions.

The 22-inch barrel wears a 1-10 twist rifling, ideal for the velocity and bullet weights most .270 hunters prefer. A factory-threaded 5/8x24 muzzle means you can add a suppressor, muzzle brake, or flash hider without additional gunsmithing. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so mounting a scope rail is straightforward. No iron sights are fitted—this is a scope-ready hunter designed for modern optics setups.

You get a 3-position safety for positive control, a hinged floor plate for easy unloading, and sling-swivel studs already installed. The HACT trigger, Howa's in-house unit, breaks cleanly and contributes to that sub-MOA accuracy promise. A black rubber recoil pad absorbs punishment, and the classic Monte Carlo walnut stock feels at home in a truck rack or carried through timber. The .270 Win platform gives you access to affordable, common ammunition and a massive selection of factory loads—from light varmint rounds to 150-grain hunting loads.

Whether you're building your first serious deer rifle or upgrading to something you'll keep for decades, the Howa Standard Hunter offers excellent value and genuine field performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope on the Howa Standard Hunter .270 Winchester?

Yes. The receiver arrives drilled and tapped, so you can bolt on a scope rail directly without sending it to a gunsmith. Popular choices are Picatinny or Weaver rails.

Is this rifle threaded for a suppressor?

Yes. The muzzle is threaded 5/8x24, the standard for .270 Winchester suppressors. You can add a suppressor, muzzle brake, or flash hider to customize the rifle's performance and recoil characteristics.

What kind of accuracy can I expect from this rifle?

Howa guarantees sub-MOA performance (less than 1 inch at 100 yards). The HACT trigger, solid bolt action, and rigid stock design all contribute to this accuracy standard, making it reliable for hunting and range work alike.

What does the 4+1 capacity mean?

The magazine holds 4 rounds, plus you can chamber 1 additional round in the barrel, giving you 5 total shots before reloading. The hinged floor plate makes it easy to unload quickly if needed.
