The Colt Combat Commander 9mm is a single-action, hammer-fired semi-auto pistol built on the legacy of one of America's most trusted firearms designs. This is a full-featured carry and range gun for shooters who want a proven 1911-platform pistol in a compact, manageable package. At 4.25 inches of barrel length and 7.75 inches overall, the Combat Commander splits the difference between concealment and controllability—short enough to carry daily, long enough to shoot well at distance.

The slide and frame are forged carbon steel with a blued finish, while the barrel is stainless steel with a polished surface. That steel-on-steel construction is made to handle hard use without apology. The gun ships with a dual spring recoil system that softens felt recoil and extends the life of the springs—meaningful details for a pistol you'll shoot regularly. Sights are genuine Novak white-dot front and low-mount carry rear, giving you a clean sight picture without snag-prone protrusions. The trigger is a crisp single-stage with weight between 4.5 and 6 pounds.

Ergonomics are built in: an extended thumb safety, upswept beavertail grip safety, and Series 80 firing pin safety keep the gun secure while you're carrying or drawing. The G10 checkered grips in black cherry are thin enough not to bloat the gun in a holster but textured enough to lock in your hand. At 33 ounces unloaded with a 9+1 round capacity, the Combat Commander is neither a featherweight nor a tank—it's balanced for real work, whether that's defensive carry, formal pistol matches, or putting rounds downrange at the club.

Colt includes a cable lock and instruction manual. This is a straightforward, no-frills tool from a maker that's been building 1911 pistols since 1911.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Colt Combat Commander good for concealed carry?

Yes. At 4.25 inches of barrel and 7.75 inches overall, it's compact enough for strong IWB or appendix carry. The 1.25-inch width and 33-ounce weight keep it comfortable for all-day wear, and the upswept beavertail and extended thumb safety won't dig into your ribs or snag on cloth. It's a true working carry gun, not a pocket pistol—designed for serious use.

What safeties does this pistol have?

Three: an extended thumb safety you manipulate with your firing hand, an upswept beavertail grip safety that automatically disengages when you grip the frame, and a Series 80 firing pin safety that prevents firing if the gun is dropped or struck. These are all passive—no manual external safety other than the thumb lever.

What sights come on the Combat Commander?

Genuine Novak white-dot front sight and Novak low-mount carry rear sight. Both are fixed and designed for fast target acquisition without the snag hazard of taller carry sights.

What's the trigger pull weight?

Between 4.5 and 6 pounds. It's a single-action, crisp trigger characteristic of 1911-pattern firearms—no staging or heavy initial resistance.
