The Browning BAR Mark III in 270 Winchester is a semi-automatic hunting rifle built on nearly a century of autoloading heritage. Chambered in one of North America's most versatile medium-game cartridges, the BAR Mark III delivers the speed and firepower of a modern autoloader with the classic lines and proven reliability that made the original BAR legendary among hunting riflemen. This third-generation variant combines a hammer-forged barrel, precision alloy receiver, and Turkish walnut furniture to create a rifle that hunts as good as it looks—whether you're working whitetail at moderate range or glassing open country for mulies.
What sets the BAR Mark III apart from bolt-action competition is its gas-operated autoloading system, which cycles reliably across a wide range of factory loads and lets you stay on target for follow-up shots. The 270 Winchester is a sweet spot for hunters who want flat trajectory and manageable recoil without sacrificing downrange punch. With a 4-round detachable box magazine, you can keep a spare loaded and ready, or top off quickly between opportunities. The 22-inch barrel strikes a practical balance between velocity and handling in brush and timber, while the rifle's 7 lb 2 oz weight keeps it reasonable for all-day carries.
The BAR Mark III's reputation rests on precision and speed—two things that matter when shooting opportunities are brief and distances vary. The fine oil finish walnut shows traditional craftsmanship, and the polished blued receiver wears the classic Browning look. Whether you're a lifelong semi-auto devotee or a bolt-action purist ready to reconsider, the BAR Mark III proves that autoloading hunters aren't settling for anything less than accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the BAR Mark III good for hunting whitetail and other medium game?
Yes. The 270 Winchester is a time-tested whitetail cartridge with flat trajectory and reliable energy retention to moderate distances. The semi-automatic action and 4-round capacity make follow-up shots quick, which is an advantage in fast-moving hunting scenarios.
Can I use the same magazines in other BAR rifles?
The BAR Mark III uses a detachable box magazine system. We recommend checking magazine compatibility with your specific rifle; while Browning has made detachable magazines across the BAR line, fitment can vary by generation and caliber. Keeping a spare magazine on hand is always smart for extended hunting trips.
What's included with the rifle?
The product record confirms the rifle ships with one 4-round detachable magazine. Contact us for details on any additional factory accessories or documentation included.
Is the 22-inch barrel short enough for brush hunting?
A 22-inch barrel on a semi-automatic rifle strikes a good balance. At 43.375 inches overall and 7 lbs 2 oz, the BAR Mark III is maneuverable in timber and thick cover while still delivering the velocity the 270 Winchester is known for. Many hunters find this length ideal for mixed terrain hunting.
