The Browning A5 Ultimate Sweet Sixteen is a 16-gauge autoloading shotgun built for hunters who refuse to compromise between elegance and function. This is the gun for upland game—pheasant, grouse, quail—where a lighter carry and reduced recoil make the difference on a long day afield. The 16 gauge has long held a reputation as the gentleman's gauge: ballistically it splits the distance between a 20 and a 12, delivering 12-gauge-class patterns from a frame and stock weight closer to a 20. Browning's A5 in this gauge honors that heritage while delivering modern, reliable autoloading performance.
At the heart of the A5 is Browning's Kinematic Drive short-recoil operating system—the same proven concept that made the original Auto-5 legendary, refined for consistent function across a wide range of ammunition and conditions. Unlike gas-operated designs, the A5 vents combustion gases cleanly out the barrel, keeping the action cleaner and simpler. The receiver follows the classic A5 humpback profile, which lengthens the sighting plane and gives you the same sight-radius advantage the early Auto-5s were prized for. A satin nickel finish with scroll engraving and brushed accents covers the receiver, while Grade III Turkish walnut with a gloss oil finish and checkering graces the stock—details that belong on a gun you'll pass down.
Practically, the A5 Ultimate Sweet Sixteen doesn't ask you to sacrifice performance for beauty. Total Barrel Dynamics and Invector-DS choke tubes (Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder) let you dial in patterns for your quarry. The 28-inch barrel handles 2¾-inch shells. Speed Load Plus speeds up recharging, and a TurnKey Magazine Plug makes it easy to swap between hunting and sport-shooting configurations. The fiber-optic front sight and ivory mid-bead cut through cover. A shim-adjustable walnut stock lets you fine-tune cast and drop, and the Inflex recoil pad absorbs what little kick a 16 throws. This is a working gun dressed in the tailored style of an era when shotguns were expected to do both.
