The Browning A5 Sweet Sixteen 16-gauge autoloading shotgun pairs genuine 16-gauge performance with a lightweight, maneuverable platform that earned a reputation as the Gentleman's Gauge for good reason. Built on a compact receiver and chambered in 2-3/4-inch shells, this 28-inch-barreled shotgun weighs just over 6 pounds—light enough to carry all day without fatigue, yet loaded with the ballistic authority hunters expect. If you've hunted waterfowl, upland birds, or clays with a 16 gauge before, you know the appeal: a shot payload closer to a 12-gauge with handling and recoil more like a 20-gauge.
The A5 Sweet Sixteen runs Browning's Kinematic Drive short-recoil system—a proven design that converts recoil energy into reliable mechanical action. This means consistent cycling across light target loads and heavy hunting rounds, regardless of weather, temperature, or field conditions. The humpback receiver profile increases your sighting plane for a natural sight picture, echoing the classic Auto-5 design that made the platform famous. Gas is vented out the barrel away from the action, keeping the internals cleaner and operation smooth over time.
Practical features make this shotgun ready for the marsh and beyond. The composite stock resists weather and features textured gripping surfaces for secure handling in wet conditions. Shim-adjustable length of pull, cast, and drop let you dial in fit without a gunsmith. The Invector-DS choke system accepts three interchangeable tubes, letting you match patterns to your quarry and distance. A fiber-optic front sight and ivory mid-bead provide a fast sight picture in low light.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a 16-gauge shotgun good for hunting?
The 16-gauge occupies a sweet spot between the 20 and 12: it delivers shot payload closer to a 12-gauge with less recoil and weight. Well-designed 16-gauge guns often pattern better than both and handle more comfortably. The A5 Sweet Sixteen takes full advantage of modern 16-gauge ammunition availability.
What choke tubes come with the A5 Sweet Sixteen?
Three Invector-DS choke tubes are included with this shotgun, allowing you to adjust your pattern for different hunting situations and distances.
How does the Kinematic Drive system work?
Kinematic Drive harnesses recoil energy and converts it into the mechanical motion needed to operate the action. This short-recoil design is reliable across a wide range of loads and extreme weather conditions, and vents gases away from the action to keep it cleaner.
Can the stock be adjusted for fit?
Yes. The composite stock is shim-adjustable for length of pull, cast, and drop, so you can customize fit without sending the gun to a gunsmith.
