The Winchester XPR Hunter in .300 WSM with True Timber Strata finish is a modern bolt-action rifle built for hunters who want serious performance without breaking the bank. Winchester's XPR platform pairs a precision button-rifled barrel with a short-action receiver and MOA trigger system, delivering consistent accuracy across a broad range of hunting situations. Chambered in .300 WSM—a proven magnum round for elk, mule deer, and other mid-to-large game—this rifle hits hard at distance while remaining fast-handling in the field. The True Timber Strata camouflage pattern works across diverse terrain, from high desert to mountain timber, giving you one less thing to worry about when the moment matters.

The XPR's steel receiver and barrel both wear a durable Permacote FDE finish that resists the elements and the wear of hard use. The free-floating barrel design promotes accuracy, while the recessed target crown protects the muzzle from damage. The bolt-action comes with a two-position thumb safety and bolt unlock button—controls positioned exactly where your hand naturally lands during a hunt. The composite stock is lighter than traditional wood and won't swell or shift with weather, and the installed Inflex Technology recoil pad keeps you comfortable through extended shooting sessions.

At 7 pounds with a 24-inch barrel and 44-inch overall length, the XPR Hunter balances portability with sight radius and velocity. The length of pull is set at 13 3/4 inches, and drop at comb and heel measurements give you a stock geometry optimized for scope use. The three-round magazine keeps the rifle nimble, and the receiver is already drilled and tapped for a scope mount, so you can get to the range or field quickly. Whether you're glassing ridges for elk or stalking timber edges, the XPR Hunter is a rifle that works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the effective range for hunting elk and larger game with the .300 WSM?

The .300 WSM is a magnum cartridge designed for hunting larger game like elk, mule deer, and similar species. With its 24-inch barrel and 1 in 10 inch twist rate, it delivers good velocity and energy beyond 300 yards. Your effective range depends on your optic, your skill, and the specific ammunition you choose—we recommend talking with our team about load selection for your intended game.

Does this rifle come ready to shoot, or do I need to mount a scope?

The receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope mount, so you're ready to install an optic once you acquire one. The rifle comes with sling swivel studs already installed. You'll need to add a scope, rings, and bases separately.

Is the True Timber Strata camo effective for my hunting situation?

True Timber Strata is designed to blend across varied terrain—rocks, sagebrush, timber, and mountain transitions. It's a solid all-around pattern for Western hunting, though its effectiveness depends on your specific region and season. If you hunt primarily in a different environment, camo color is just one tool in staying undetected.

What is the magazine capacity, and are extra magazines available?

The XPR Hunter ships with a 3-round magazine. For information on magazine compatibility and availability, stop by and we can help you source extras.
