The Winchester Xpert S is a lightweight .22 LR bolt-action rifle built for shooters who demand accuracy and reliability without breaking the bank. At just 4½ pounds, this rimfire pairs genuine performance features—normally found on Winchester's centerfire models—with a no-frills polymer stock design that keeps your money where it matters: in ammunition and optics. Whether you're zeroing a new scope, running steel at the range, or taking a young shooter on their first hunt, the Xpert S delivers the precision trigger and barrel quality that separate a real rifle from a budget special.
The heart of the Xpert S is Winchester's three-lever Rimfire M.O.A. Trigger, the same design philosophy used in the Model 70 and XPR centerfire rifles. Zero creep, zero take-up, zero overtravel—it breaks like glass and gives you the shot control that accuracy demands. The barrel is button-rifled with a recessed target-style crown and a semi-match Bentz chamber, paired with a hemispherical firing pin that wrings dependable function from every rimfire round. A steel receiver drilled and tapped for standard scope mounts means you can outfit this rifle for long-range .22 work or mount a red dot for quick-aim small game.
Handling features show real thought: the extended bolt handle gives you leverage without fumbling, ambidextrous magazine releases on both sides deliver the mag into your hand, and a safety tucked in the rear receiver is intuitive to operate. The 10-round rotary magazine is the same unit found in the Winchester Wildcat, and the rifle also accepts standard 10/22 aftermarket magazines for flexibility and parts availability. Factory iron sights (adjustable rear, post front) are included—useful for learning or as backups if your optic goes down. The Picatinny rail on the underside of the forearm (with cover included) accepts tactical accessories if you want to add a light or sling attachment.
The steep grip angle and molded polymer stock are designed for natural finger-to-trigger reach, and the rifle ships with front and rear sling eyelets ready for hunting carry. If you need more length of pull or a cheek riser for optics-mounting, Winchester offers spacers and clip-on risers as accessories—smart modularity on a sub-$300 rifle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mount a scope on the Winchester Xpert S?
Yes. The steel receiver is drilled and tapped for standard scope mounts. The rifle ships with factory iron sights, but you can add any Picatinny or Weaver-mount optic. If you're mounting a scope high enough to obstruct the iron sights, the included sights can be removed. Length-of-pull spacers and clip-on cheek risers are available if you need to adjust the stock for proper optics eye relief.
What magazines does the Xpert S use, and are aftermarket options available?
The Xpert S ships with a 10-round rotary magazine that is the same as those in the Winchester Wildcat. The rifle also accepts standard 10/22 magazines from other manufacturers, giving you plenty of options for additional capacity or replacement magazines if needed.
Is the Xpert S ambidextrous, and can a left-handed shooter operate it comfortably?
The rifle features ambidextrous magazine releases on both the side rails and bottom of the stock, so both left- and right-handed shooters can drop the magazine easily. The safety is tucked into the rear of the receiver and is within reach for most users. The bolt is on the right side of the receiver, so left-handed shooters should confirm the rifle's fit before purchase.
What comes in the box with the Xpert S?
The rifle ships with adjustable rear and ramped post front sights, a 10-round rotary magazine, a Picatinny rail cover for the forearm, and sling eyelets attached front and rear. Scope mounts, optics, ammunition, and optional length-of-pull spacers or cheek risers are sold separately.
