The Winchester Xpert in 17 WSM is a lightweight bolt-action rimfire rifle built for shooters who demand accuracy and dependability in a compact, portable package. Chambered in the fast 17 WSM cartridge, this rifle combines Winchester's rimfire heritage with modern features that appeal to varmint hunters, target shooters, and anyone serious about precision at distance. The 18-inch button-rifled barrel with target crown and Bentz-style chamber delivers the consistency you need when precision matters, while the durable steel receiver is already drilled and tapped for optic mounts—no gunsmithing required.

What sets the Xpert apart is the attention to shooting fundamentals. The three-lever adjustable Rimfire M.O.A. Trigger is crisp and tunable for your preference, and the extended bolt handle makes feeding and cycling intuitive. Open sights are included—an adjustable rear and ramped post front—giving you a capable sight picture right out of the box while leaving the top rail clear for your scope if you choose to go that route. The rifle ships with one rotary magazine (10-round for 22 LR, 8-round for 17 WMR), but the ambidextrous magazine release accommodates most aftermarket 10/22 magazines for 22 LR, so you can mix and match gear you may already own.

The TrueTimber Strata camouflage finish on the lightweight polymer stock blends performance with field aesthetics, while the matte black receiver and barrel resist glint and corrosion. Front and rear sling eyelets are molded in, ready for a sling—essential if you're hiking into varmint country or running field drills. This is a rifle that respects your time in the field: compact enough to pack, accurate enough to count on, and built by a name that's been running rimfires for generations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope on the Winchester Xpert 17 WSM?

Yes. The steel receiver is drilled and tapped for standard optic mounts, so you can easily add a scope. The rifle also ships with adjustable open sights, so you can shoot right away while you source your preferred optic.

What magazines does the Winchester Xpert 17 WSM accept?

It comes with one rotary magazine (10-round for 22 LR, 8-round for 17 WMR capacity). The rifle is also compatible with aftermarket 10/22-pattern magazines for 22 LR, making it flexible if you already have compatible magazines in your gear collection. The magazine release is ambidextrous, with side-mounted rails and a release tab for smooth operation.

Is this rifle suitable for varmint hunting or target shooting?

Yes. The 17 WSM chambering, button-rifled barrel with target crown, Bentz-style chamber, and adjustable Rimfire M.O.A. Trigger all support precision shooting at distance. The included open sights and pre-drilled receiver for scope mounting make the rifle adaptable to both field hunting and range work.

What does the TrueTimber Strata finish look like and how durable is it?

The TrueTimber Strata camouflage pattern is applied to the lightweight polymer stock, while the receiver and barrel have a matte black finish. The matte black helps prevent glint and resists corrosion. The polymer stock is molded with the camo pattern, combining durability and field-ready aesthetics.
