The Winchester Model 1895 in 30-40 Krag is a centerfire lever-action rifle built on one of America's most storied designs. Originally chambered for the 30-40 Krag cartridge—a round that saw service with the U.S. military—this rifle carries the DNA of the original 1895, the same action that earned the respect of hunters and soldiers worldwide. With its straight-grip Grade III/IV walnut stock, button-rifled barrel, and traditional cut checkering, this is a rifle that appeals to hunters and collectors who value classic American craftsmanship and reliable lever-action performance in a heritage package.
The receiver and barrel wear a gloss blued finish that gives the rifle its timeless appearance. You'll find a top tang safety, Marble Arms gold bead front sight, and buckhorn rear sight ready to go out of the box. The receiver is drilled and tapped for side mount optics, so you can modernize the sight picture if your hunting demands it while keeping the classic lines intact. The non-detachable box magazine—innovative for its time—keeps things simple and reliable, exactly as Winchester intended.
This is a rifle for those who respect what came before: hunters working open country or timber, shooters who prefer the tactile engagement of a lever action, and collectors who understand that some designs simply don't need reinvention. The 30-40 Krag delivers adequate power for deer and similar game at reasonable distances, and the Model 1895 platform is proven across more than a century of use. Whether you're drawn to the historical significance or the practical virtues of a lever gun that just works, the Winchester 1895 commands attention.
