The Weatherby Sorix XSL 20/28 Mag shotgun is a modern inertia-operated semi-auto built for hunters and sport shooters who demand reliability in the field without compromise on handling or comfort. With a 3-inch chamber and field-proven inertia recoil system, the Sorix delivers the versatility and performance you need whether you're working upland birds, waterfowl, or clay targets. What sets it apart is Weatherby's attention to shooter ergonomics and the clever SHIFT System that lets left-handed users reconfigure the charging handle and safety for a truly ambidextrous experience—a rarity in semi-auto shotguns.

The receiver wears an aggressive competition-style cut that makes reloading faster and smoother, paired with oversized controls: a slammer button, charging handle, and safety designed to function reliably even in cold, wet, or muddy conditions. The stepped rib hosts an LPA fiber optic sight for quick target acquisition, and the entire receiver is drilled and tapped (8-40 holes) to accept optional optics mounts, making the Sorix ready for glass-topped configurations right from the box. Weatherby's craftspeople in Italy handle the core build, while the hand-painted brush finish is completed in Sheridan, Wyoming—a detail that shows in the receiver and barrel Cerakote coating, chosen specifically to resist harsh weather and heavy use.

Comfort matters on long hunting days. The stock features textured touch points for secure grip and a soft cheekpiece that won't punish your face during sustained shooting. Adjustable stock shims let you dial in cast and fit to your frame. You'll get five Crio Plus choke tubes (Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full), a wrench, and a carrying case, so you can adapt the Sorix to any game or target distance without additional expense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a left-handed shooter use the Weatherby Sorix XSL comfortably?

Yes. The Sorix features Weatherby's SHIFT System, which allows left-handed users to swap the charging handle and safety to the opposite side, giving a true southpaw shooting experience. This is a rare feature in semi-auto shotguns and means left-handers don't have to compromise on ergonomics or control.

What chokes come with this shotgun?

The Sorix XSL includes five Crio Plus choke tubes: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. You'll also receive a choke wrench and a convenient carrying case so you can swap tubes for different hunting or shooting scenarios.

Is the Sorix ready to mount optics?

The receiver is drilled and tapped with 8-40 holes, making the Sorix optics-ready out of the box. You can mount optional scopes or electronic sights without any gunsmithing. The integrated LPA fiber optic stepped rib provides a backup sight for fast target acquisition.

How does the 20/28 Mag chamber work?

The 3-inch chamber accepts both 20-gauge and 28-gauge ammunition, giving you flexibility to load lighter recoil 28-gauge rounds for upland work or step up to heavier 20-gauge loads when you need more energy. Check your local regulations and load accordingly for your intended game.
