The Weatherby Sorix XSL1228MAG 12 gauge shotgun is a modern, purpose-built semi-automatic designed for serious hunters and sport shooters who demand reliable performance in the field. Built around Weatherby's inertia recoil system, the Sorix brings Italian craftsmanship and American finishing to a 28-inch barrel platform chambered for 3-inch magnum loads. Whether you're working waterfowl, upland birds, or clay targets, this is a shotgun engineered for the hunter who won't settle for compromises.

The Sorix prioritizes ergonomics and operation in real-world conditions. Oversized controls—charging handle, bolt release button, and safety—make the gun intuitive to manipulate even when wearing gloves or in low-light situations. A competition-style receiver cut speeds reloading during fast-paced shooting. The receiver and barrel wear a durable Cerakote finish to stand up to weather and heavy use, while the hand-painted stock receives textured grip panels and a soft cheekpiece for comfort. Adjustable stock shims let you dial in cast and fit to your frame. The Sorix even ships optics-ready: the receiver is drilled and tapped (8-40 holes) to accept standard mounts, so you can add a red dot or scope right out of the box.

Weatherby's SHIFT SYSTEM is a standout feature for left-handed shooters—you can swap the charging handle and safety to convert the gun to true southpaw operation, making it genuinely ambidextrous. The stepped rib carries a LPA fiber-optic front sight for fast, accurate target acquisition. Choke versatility comes via the popular Crio Plus system; the gun arrives with five chokes (cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified, and full) plus a choke wrench and carrying case, giving you flexibility for any hunting situation or clay target venue.

Made in Italy and finished in Wyoming, the Sorix reflects genuine attention to detail—not hype. If you hunt in variable conditions and want a semi-automatic that handles like it was built for your needs, this 12 gauge belongs in your safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sorix left-handed or ambidextrous?

The Sorix ships as a right-handed shotgun but features Weatherby's SHIFT SYSTEM, which allows left-handed shooters to swap out the charging handle and safety to convert it to true left-handed operation. This makes it genuinely ambidextrous with minimal effort.

Can I mount an optic or red dot on this shotgun?

Yes. The receiver is drilled and tapped with 8-40 holes to accept standard mounts, making the Sorix optics-ready right out of the box. You'll need to source your own mount and optic based on your preferred sight picture.

What chokes come with the shotgun?

The Sorix includes five Crio Plus chokes: cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified, and full. A choke wrench and convenient carrying case are also provided so you can swap chokes for different hunting or clay target scenarios.

Can I adjust the stock fit?

Yes. The Sorix comes with adjustable stock shims that let you customize the cast (lateral adjustment) and overall fitment to suit your frame and shooting style, which is especially useful for dialing in comfort during extended hunting days.
