The Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 2.0 LH .270 Wby Mag is a left-handed magnum hunting rifle engineered for backcountry hunters who demand minimal weight without sacrificing power or precision. Built on Weatherby's proven Mark V action and chambered in the fast, flat-shooting .270 Wby Mag, this bolt-action rifle strips away unnecessary mass while keeping the hard-hitting capability you need for mountain game at extended range. At just 6.2 lbs, it's light enough for all-day pack hunting yet robust enough to handle a genuine magnum cartridge responsibly.
The Backcountry 2.0's design philosophy centers on intelligent weight reduction without compromise. A super-thin, fluted barrel in #1 MOD contour saves ounces without sacrificing stiffness or accuracy. The carbon-fiber Peak 44 Blacktooth stock—available in versions under 20 ounces—replaces traditional wood or plastic with genuine carbon composite, visibly reducing overall package weight. The bolt body features more pronounced spiral fluting, and the newly-threaded bolt handle sports a lightweight aluminum extended and skeletonized knob for smooth cycling in the field.
Recoil management in a magnum rifle this light comes courtesy of Weatherby's Accubrake ST, a symmetrically-ported muzzle brake that harnesses gas flow to tame even powerful cartridges. The 3DHEX recoil pad—a 3D-printed design with interlocking voids—progressively collapses during recoil, lengthening the impulse and dulling the sharp kick that lighter rifles can deliver. Dressed in Cerakote Patriot Brown on the action and barrel, with a brown and green sponge-pattern carbon-fiber stock, the Backcountry 2.0 looks as purposeful as it performs.
Left-hand shooters often settle for right-hand rifles; this rifle honors the southpaw's needs with a full left-hand action. Three rounds of .270 Wby Mag in the magazine plus one in the chamber give you the firepower for responsive hunting scenarios. With a 13.5-inch length of pull and a 28-inch barrel (48 inches overall), this rifle balances reach and handiness for hunters navigating thick timber and open ridges alike.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle available for left-handed shooters?
Yes. This Backcountry 2.0 is a true left-hand rifle with a full left-hand Mark V action, bolt, and safety—not a converted right-hand gun.
What is the 3DHEX recoil pad and why does it matter?
The 3DHEX pad is Weatherby's 3D-printed recoil pad featuring interlocking voids that progressively collapse during recoil. By extending the time the recoil impulse is spread across, it significantly reduces the sharp kick that magnum rifles can deliver—especially helpful in a lightweight firearm.
How much does the carbon-fiber stock save in weight?
The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon-fiber stock is available in versions that weigh under 20 ounces, dramatically lighter than traditional wood or fiberglass stocks, contributing to the rifle's overall 6.2 lb weight.
What does the Accubrake ST do?
The Accubrake ST is a muzzle brake with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports designed to harness recoil gases and reduce felt recoil, making powerful magnum cartridges like the .270 Wby Mag more pleasant to shoot while maintaining accuracy.
