The Weatherby Mark V 6.5-300 Wby Mag bolt-action rifle is built for hunters who refuse to compromise on power, range capability, or field weight. Chambered in the formidable 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum cartridge, this rifle pairs magnum velocity with a 26" #1 MOD contour barrel and a 1-in-8 twist rate optimized for modern 6.5mm projectiles. The Mark V action—machined from titanium and left raw to showcase its precision—represents generations of Weatherby refinement, while the barreled action is sealed in black ceramic Cerakote for durability. Weighing just 4.9 lbs in this magnum configuration, it's engineered for backcountry hunters who log miles to reach their spots.
Weight savings permeate every design choice. The fluted barrel sheds ounces without sacrificing stiffness, and the bolt body wears pronounced spiral fluting that reduces bearing surface for smoother cycling. The threaded bolt handle carries an extended, skeletonized aluminum knob—another gram-shaving touch that never compromises function. All of this rides in the new Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock, finished in grey and white sponge-pattern accents that break up the rifle's profile. The stock itself weighs less than 20 ounces, contributing directly to the rifle's featherweight profile.
Recoil management comes via Weatherby's Accubrake ST, fitted at the muzzle with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports designed to harness the sharp kick typical of magnum loads. The second-generation 3DHEX recoil pad—a 3D-printed design with interlocking voids—progressively collapses during recoil, extending the impulse timeline and softening the bite of the 6.5-300 Wby Mag. Magazine capacity is 3+1, and the trigger guard is fluted and finished in graphite black Cerakote to match the barrel and bolt. Overall length runs 48 inches with a 13.5-inch length of pull.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this rifle suitable for long-range hunting?
Yes. The 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum is a potent magnum cartridge designed for extended-range performance, and the 26" barrel with 1-in-8 twist is optimized for modern 6.5mm projectiles. The rifle's lightweight profile and Accubrake ST recoil management make it practical for hunters pursuing game at distance without excessive fatigue.
What makes this rifle so light?
Weight reduction is engineered throughout. The action is machined from titanium, the barrel is fluted, and the Mark V bolt features pronounced spiral fluting. The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock weighs less than 20 ounces, and the bolt handle is skeletonized aluminum. Combined, these details bring the rifle to just 4.9 lbs—among the lightest in its class.
How does the 3DHEX recoil pad work?
The 3DHEX pad is a 3D-printed design with interlocking voids that progressively collapse during recoil. This extends the time component of the recoil impulse, softening the sharp kick typical of magnum cartridges and making the rifle more pleasant to shoot.
What calibers and configurations are available?
This specific rifle is chambered in 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum with a 26" barrel and weighs 4.9 lbs. Weatherby offers the Backcountry 2.0 Ti line in other calibers and barrel contours; check current availability for other options.
