The Weatherby Mark V .257 Wby Mag bolt action rifle represents the latest evolution in lightweight, long-range hunting design. Built on Weatherby's proven Mark V action, the Backcountry 2.0 combines magnum firepower with backcountry-friendly weight—tipping the scales at just 5.4 lbs in this magnum chambering. The .257 Weatherby Magnum delivers flat trajectory and velocity for extended-range hunting, while the rifle's architecture prioritizes what matters most to mountain hunters: speed without sacrifice.
The standout feature here is the Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock, one of the industry's lightest. Paired with a super-thin #1 MOD contour fluted barrel, every component contributes to the overall weight reduction without compromising rigidity or accuracy. The action and barrel wear Patriot Brown Cerakote for durability, while the stock's brown and green pattern integrates exposed carbon fiber for a distinctive look that's as functional as it is striking.
Recoil management on a magnum rifle matters, especially in a lightweight platform. The 3DHEX recoil pad—a second-generation 3D-printed design—features interlocking voids that absorb and spread the recoil impulse, making the .257 Wby Mag genuinely pleasant to shoot. The Accubrake ST muzzle brake, with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports, further tames the kick while blending seamlessly with the muzzle profile. The bolt body sports pronounced spiral fluting for reduced bearing surface and smoother cycling, and the lightweight aluminum extended knob is skeletonized to save ounces without sacrificing control.
This is a rifle built for hunters who cover ground—whether glassing alpine basins or executing long-range shots in open country. The 26-inch barrel and 1-in-10 twist rate stabilize .257 Weatherby ammunition, while the 3+1 magazine capacity keeps you ready. A 13.5-inch length of pull and low comb/heel drop geometry provide a comfortable, natural sight picture for most shooters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Weatherby Mark V .257 Wby Mag suitable for long-range hunting?
Yes. The .257 Weatherby Magnum is built for extended-range performance, and the 26-inch barrel with 1-in-10 twist provides the velocity and accuracy needed for distance shooting. The lightweight, rigid carbon fiber stock and proven Mark V action support consistent precision without adding unnecessary bulk.
How does the 3DHEX recoil pad work?
The 3DHEX pad is a 3D-printed pad with interlocking voids inside that progressively collapse during recoil, extending the time component of the recoil impulse and reducing the sharp kick. Combined with the Accubrake ST muzzle brake, this makes the magnum chambering comfortable to shoot and allows faster follow-up shots.
What's included with this rifle?
Based on the product specifications provided, the rifle comes with the Accubrake ST muzzle brake installed, the 3DHEX recoil pad, and a 3+1 magazine capacity. Specific details about additional accessories or documentation should be confirmed with Bosque Outdoors.
How light is this rifle compared to other magnum hunting rifles?
At 5.4 lbs in .257 Wby Mag, the Backcountry 2.0 is designed as one of the lightest magnum platforms available. The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock (under 20 oz) and #1 MOD fluted barrel contribute significantly to weight savings without sacrificing barrel stiffness or action strength.
