The Weatherby Mark V Apex .257 Wby Mag is a lightweight long-range hunting rifle built for shooters who refuse to compromise between accuracy and pack weight. Built on Weatherby's proven Mark V steel action, the Apex pairs a fluted, two-tone cerakoted barrel with Peak 44's Bastion carbon fiber stock—a vertical grip design that tips the scales at just 23 ounces and delivers genuine comfort in the field. Whether you're stalking elk across high country or shooting from a bench at distance, this rifle merges the ergonomics and recoil management serious hunters demand with the carry-ability that makes all-day hunts actually enjoyable.
What sets the Apex apart is its commitment to controlled recoil without the weight penalty. The Weatherby Accubrake ST muzzle brake features 30 symmetrically-spaced ports engineered to tame magnum recoil impulse, while the rifle's standout 3DHEX recoil pad—a first-of-its-kind 3D-printed design—uses interlocking voids that progressively collapse during firing, expanding the duration of recoil energy and significantly reducing felt kick. Combine that with a rifleaction featuring a spiral-fluted bolt body that lightens the gun and smooths bolt cycling, and you've got a magnum platform that shoots as comfortably as it carries. The Bastion stock itself offers an ambidextrous palm swell and substantial thumb groove to anchor your hand during recoil, plus dual forend swivel studs for accessory flexibility.
Aesthetically, the Apex doesn't shy away. A two-tone Cerakote finish—Coyote Tan on the barrel, receiver, and trigger guard paired with Graphite Black on the bolt and safety—gives the rifle a purposeful, modern look. The exposed carbon fiber stock with tan and brown sponge-pattern accents signals quality without shouting. This is a rifle engineered for hunters serious about hitting distant targets reliably, carrying a magnum cartridge efficiently, and doing both without regret.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Weatherby Mark V Apex suitable for long-range hunting?
Yes. The Mark V Apex is purpose-built for long-range accuracy. The Mark V steel action is renowned for precision, and the rifle's design—from its fluted barrel to controlled recoil management—supports consistent, distance shooting. The .257 Weatherby Magnum caliber delivers flat trajectories and velocity suited to extended-range hunting.
How much does the rifle weigh, and what makes it lighter than comparable rifles?
The Bastion carbon fiber stock weighs just 23 ounces—among the lightest production vertical grip stocks on the market. Additional weight savings come from the spiral-fluted bolt body and fluted barrel, which reduce overall mass without compromising rigidity or accuracy. These features combine to create a rifle that carries comfortably in the field without the bulk typical of magnum platforms.
What recoil management features does the Apex offer?
The Apex employs three integrated recoil-reduction technologies: the Weatherby Accubrake ST muzzle brake with 30 symmetrically-spaced ports, the innovative 3DHEX 3D-printed recoil pad that progressively collapses during firing to extend the recoil impulse duration, and the Bastion stock's ambidextrous palm swell and thumb groove that anchor your grip. Together, these reduce felt recoil significantly, improving accuracy and shooter comfort, especially important when shooting the .257 Weatherby Magnum.
Can I mount accessories like a sling or bipod?
Yes. The Bastion stock includes dual swivel studs on the forend, allowing you to attach slings, bipods, or other accessories according to your setup preferences.
