The Weatherby 307 Builders Action Magnum Standard is the company's first new action design in over 50 years, engineered from the ground up for the modern gunsmith and builder. This long-action magnum receiver features a 2-lug bolt and tool-less takedown, making field maintenance and customization straightforward. If you're looking to build a magnum rifle on a platform that welcomes standard aftermarket stocks, triggers, rails, and bottom metals, the Model 307 delivers the precision Weatherby has been known for since 1945 without locking you into proprietary parts.

The black Cerakote finish on the bolt, bolt knob, and receiver gives you a clean, durable foundation. The 90-degree bolt throw keeps your hand position compact and natural, while the standard .880-inch tenon (1-1/16-16 threads) plays nicely with common gunsmithing practices and standard 700-pattern bottom metals. At 1.78 pounds unbarreled, the action itself is lightweight enough that your finished rifle weight will be driven by barrel, stock, and optics choices rather than the receiver.

Whether you're assembling a long-range magnum, a hunting rifle in a wildcat cartridge, or a precision build tailored to your exact specs, the Model 307 gives you the freedom to source components where you want and build exactly what you envision. The .540 magnum bolt face is ready for the big cartridges, and the 3.95-inch magazine box length accommodates standard magnum rounds. This is a receiver for shooters who know what they want and aren't willing to compromise on platform flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this action work with standard 700-pattern bottom metals and stocks?

Yes. The Model 307 was designed to accept the vast array of aftermarket stocks, triggers, rails, mounts, and bottom metals available in the marketplace. The standard .880-inch tenon and 1-1/16-16 threads follow common gunsmithing practices, making it compatible with 700-pattern bottom metals and other widely available components.

What cartridges can the 307 Magnum handle?

The .540 magnum bolt face is sized for large-magnum cartridges. The 3.95-inch magazine box length is designed to accommodate standard magnum rounds. Consult a qualified gunsmith to confirm compatibility with your specific cartridge choice during the build process.

How easy is it to maintain and disassemble the action?

The 2-lug bolt features tool-less takedown, allowing you to disassemble and clean the action without special tools. This makes field maintenance straightforward and keeps you shooting without downtime.

Is this action suitable for a custom gunbuilding project?

Absolutely. The Model 307 was purpose-built for builders and gunsmiths. Its compatibility with standard aftermarket components, conventional tenon and bolt face dimensions, and lightweight design make it an excellent platform for custom long-range magnum rifles, hunting builds, and precision projects where you want complete control over every component.
