The TriStar Cypher Over/Under is a refined 16-gauge shotgun built for hunters who value balance, handling, and classic reliability. With its 28" barrel, walnut stock, and accessible profile, the Cypher rewards shooters who prefer a nimble gun in the field—whether you're working upland game, clay targets, or hunting in close cover where a lighter swing matters. The 16 gauge has been regaining favor among experienced hunters for its reduced recoil and surprising effectiveness, and the Cypher delivers that cartridge in a gun that feels right in your hands rather than like an over-built 12.

TriStar equipped the Cypher with a steel receiver and selective ejectors, so spent shells pop free on the way out and you stay focused on the target. The raised fiber optic sight gives you a reliable sight picture in variable light, and the CT-5 extended choke system puts five constrictions at your fingertips—Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full—so you can tune the pattern for the distance and game you're hunting that day. The satin deluxe walnut stock balances durability with the look and feel hunters expect from a double gun.

This is a working shotgun, not a safe queen. The Cypher handles like a gun with a real pedigree, scaled right for the 16 and priced to let you actually use it rather than admire it from a distance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What chokes come with the Tristar Cypher?

The Cypher ships with a complete CT-5 extended choke set offering five constrictions: Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified, and Full. You can swap them to match your hunting situation and shot distance.

Is 16 gauge good for hunting?

Yes. The 16 gauge has traditionally been a favorite among upland hunters for its lighter recoil than a 12 and solid pattern at typical hunting ranges. It's effective on game birds and clay targets, and many experienced shooters prefer the handling and balance of a 16-bore gun.

What does "selective ejectors" mean?

Selective ejectors automatically eject only the fired shell when you open the gun. The unfired shell in the other barrel remains in the chamber so you can unload it by hand if needed, giving you control over both barrels.

What is the fiber optic sight on the barrel?

The raised fiber optic sight is a bead at the muzzle that collects and glows in varying light conditions, making it easier to align your shot picture and track moving targets.
