The Taylors & Company Smokewagon 44-40 revolver is a second-generation single-action built for shooters who want authentic Old West handling without compromise. Chambered in .44-40—a classic cartridge with real stopping power and historic appeal—this 4.75-inch barrel revolver bridges the gap between period correctness and practical shooting. Whether you're a Cowboy Action competitor, a lever-gun enthusiast looking to match your rifle, or a serious collector of traditional sixguns, the Smokewagon delivers the balance, ergonomics, and trigger control that separate a working gun from a safe queens.
The design philosophy shows in every detail. A low-sitting hammer lets your hand come naturally to the grip without obstruction, while the wider-profile sights speed up sight acquisition when speed matters. The blue finish flows into a case-hardened frame—a nod to the trade-marked aesthetics of original stagecoach guns—while the checkered walnut grips provide enough texture to secure your hold under recoil without sharp edges. At 2.45 pounds and 10.35 inches overall, the gun points naturally and doesn't fatigue in the hand over a long shooting session.
This is the traditional finish model: a pure, no-frills single-action revolver. If you're serious about trigger control and smoothness, Taylors & Company offers Taylor Tuned versions with hand-polished springs and precisely jig-cut hammer and sear angles for a crisp, predictable pull—but this standard version is ready to shoot straight out of the box. Six rounds of .44-40, fixed sights, and a trigger system that works. That's the Smokewagon promise.
