The Taylors & Company Schofield 7" 44-40 revolver brings authentic Old West functionality to modern shooters who appreciate break-top action and period-correct design. Built on the legendary platform that served U.S. Cavalry troopers and earned its reputation with frontier gunfighters, this blued steel revolver combines historical accuracy with practical handling. The top-break design lets you eject all six spent rounds and reload with a single motion — a real advantage whether you're running the gun at the range or working it during mounted shooting competitions.

What made the Schofield special in 1873 still holds true today: the barrel latch operates intuitively by thumb, the compact 7-inch barrel doesn't snag, and the gun balances well in the hand. The forged steel frame wears a durable blued finish, with case-hardened parts adding both period charm and wear resistance. A two-piece walnut grip rounds out the build with classic appeal and good handling ergonomics. At just under 3 pounds, it's comfortable to carry and quick to shoulder.

If you're drawn to Cowboy Action Shooting, enjoy shooting classic revolvers, or want a historically accurate reproduction that actually works, the Schofield deserves a close look. This isn't a safe queen — it's designed to be shot and handled, which is exactly what Taylors & Company built it for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Schofield 7" revolver suitable for Cowboy Action Shooting?

Yes. The Schofield was a purpose-built single-action revolver that fits the rules and spirit of Cowboy Action competitions, and Taylors & Company manufactures this reproduction specifically for shooters who want an authentic, working period gun.

How does the top-break action work?

Pull the barrel latch back with your thumb — it's the piece that also houses the rear sight notch. The barrel assembly tips forward, allowing all six spent cartridges to drop clear at once. Close it and you're ready to reload and fire again.

What's included with the revolver?

You receive the revolver as described: forged steel frame, blued finish, case-hardened parts, and two-piece walnut grip. No ammunition or accessories are listed in the product details.

Is this a left-hand or right-hand revolver?

The product record does not specify handedness; contact Bosque Outdoors directly to confirm orientation before purchase if this is important to your intended use.
