The Taylors & Company 1874 Sharps Long Range rifle in .45-70 is a faithful reproduction of one of the most legendary long-range hunting and competition rifles ever built. This Model S788.457 captures the essence of the original Sharps Long Range design with a 34-inch barrel and features that serious shooters and traditional rifle enthusiasts have trusted for decades. If you're after an honest, historically accurate rifle that handles the .45-70 cartridge with precision, this is the real deal.
Taylors & Company engineered this rifle around the fundamentals that made the original Sharps a dominant force on the plains and at the range. The 34-inch barrel is paired with a civil-type stock featuring a pistol grip and integral cheek piece—both designed to anchor your shooting position and help you manage recoil. Selected walnut furniture, hand-checkered for grip, gives you the control you need whether you're hunting or stretching shots across open country. The forend wears a German silver cap, a period-correct touch that also protects the wood.
Long-range accuracy starts with the barrel: six grooves with a 1:18 twist optimized for the .45-70's heavier projectiles. The single set trigger breaks cleanly and consistently—the foundation of repeatable rifle shooting. The included tunnel sight (USA 455) is what shooters have relied on for a century and a half; it's adjustable, robust, and lets you dial in at distance without modern complication. At just over 12 pounds, this rifle balances authority and handling in a way that works from the bench, offhand, or mounted on a pack frame.
Whether you're building a traditional long-range hunting rifle, competing in black-powder or historical shooting sports, or simply want a rifle that connects you to genuine firearms heritage, the Taylors & Company 1874 Sharps Long Range delivers authenticity and performance without compromise.

The Taylors & Company 1874 Sharps Long Range is chambered in .45-70, a powerful and historically significant cartridge capable of hunting medium to large game and delivering impressive long-range accuracy. It's ideal for hunters pursuing elk, moose, and other big game, as well as shooters interested in black-powder or traditional long-range rifle competition.
Does this rifle come with sights?
Yes, the rifle includes a USA 455 tunnel sight, which is a proven, adjustable sight designed for long-range shooting and period-correct to the original Sharps design.
