The Cimarron Firearms Billy Dixon 1874 Sharps rifle in .45-70 is a faithful reproduction of one of the most legendary long-range hunting rifles in American history. Built on the classic Sharps action that defined buffalo hunting and frontier marksmanship, this 32-inch barreled rifle delivers the accuracy and power that made the original Billy Dixon famous—including his legendary 1,538-yard buffalo shot at the Battle of Adobe Walls. If you're drawn to historically accurate rifles that genuinely perform, or you shoot blackpowder cartridge competitions, this is the real deal.
Cimarron has earned a reputation for meticulous attention to period correctness and mechanical reliability. The Billy Dixon model captures the essence of the 1874 Sharps design, the pinnacle of single-shot rifle engineering. The 32-inch octagonal barrel provides the sight radius and velocity you need for long-range shooting, whether you're hunting big game or testing your skills at distance. This isn't a safe-queen—it's built to shoot, and shooters who understand the cartridge and the rifle respect what it can do.
The .45-70 Government round offers serious stopping power and moderate recoil compared to larger Sharps calibers, making it accessible to shooters who want authentic long-range capability without extreme punishment. This is a rifle for someone who understands firearms history, respects the mechanics of single-shot rifles, and wants to shoot something genuinely different from modern repeaters. Expect a learning curve—and a lifetime of satisfaction.
