The Cimarron Firearms 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle in .45-70 Government is a faithful reproduction of one of history's most storied hunting and competition rifles. Built on the falling-block action that made the original Sharps legendary for accuracy and power, this single-shot delivers the ballistic authority and mechanical simplicity serious long-range hunters and blackpowder enthusiasts demand. The 32-inch octagon barrel and premium 'A' grade walnut stock give it the classic lines and heft that make a Sharps feel purposeful in your hands.

Cimarron's attention to period-correct detail shows in the color case-hardened frame paired with a blued barrel—not surface flash, but genuine craftsmanship that rewards regular use. The double-set trigger system lets you dial in a light, crisp release once you've settled your aim, a feature that separates a working rifle from a wall-hanger. Iron sights (blade front, folding leaf rear) keep you honest and self-reliant, whether you're scouting elk country or shooting from the bench at distance. At 8.25 pounds, it's substantial enough to manage recoil without being a pack-breaker on backcountry hunts.

The .45-70 Government round has been hunting and fighting since 1873 for good reason: its trajectory and power suit medium-to-long-range hunting on game up to elk-sized animals, and its modest velocity curve forgives less-than-perfect form. A 1:18 twist rate stabilizes the round-nose and flat-point bullets most shooters select for this caliber. If you respect single-shot discipline, reload your own ammo, and value history married to function, the Cimarron 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle is a rifle that grows better with every season.
